MLB best bet: Cubs vs Phillies Over 8.5 (-122)

With 2 mediocre pitchers in action and the second highest-scoring team in baseball at the plate, you have to like the over in this matchup between Chicago and Philadelphia. The Cubs prevailed 8-4 on Tuesday, giving them 374 runs on the season – just barely behind the Dodgers. Ian Happ homered twice and a total of 5 guys enjoyed multi-hit performances. Happ has 3 home runs and 4 RBIs through 2 games in this series.
Toeing the rubber for this one are Chicago’s Ben Brown and Philadelphia’s Jesus Luzardo. Brown is 3-4 with a 5.37 ERA and 1.43 WHIP while allowing 7 home runs and 20 walks in 63.2 innings. Luzardo comes in with a 4.46 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. He has given up an absolutely absurd 20 earned runs on 21 hits, 3 homers and 5 walks over 5.2 innings across his last 2 starts. It’s tough to recover from that kind of disaster, especially when you have to face one of the best lineups in the game. Another high-scoring affair should be expected on Wednesday.

MLB best bet: Braves vs Brewers Under 8 (+100)

Spencer Schwellenbach is taking the mound for Atlanta on Wednesday and he has been the visitors’ most reliable pitcher in 2025 (although Chris Sale has come around following a slow first few weeks). The right-hander is sporting a 3.24 ERA and 1.05 WHIP to go along with a 75-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 80.2 innings of work. Schwellenbach has delivered 5 quality starts in his last 6 appearances and it would be 6-for-6 during this stretch if he had not missed that distinction by just 1 run on May 18 (4 earned runs allowed in 7.0 innings against Boston).
The Braves will probably require another strong outing from Schwellenbach if they want to be competitive because their bats have been relatively silent. They crossed the plate just once during Tuesday’s loss and have scored 3 runs or fewer in 7 of their last 11 contests. Atlanta will face Chad Patrick, who boasts a 2.84 ERA that he has lowered from 3.35 over his 4 most recent starts. During this stretch, Patrick has surrendered only 4 runs in 21.1 innings.
