Looking for a quick and fun bet for some Sunday action? We have you covered with our 2 favorite NRFI bets on the August 3 slate of MLB games. Let’s dive in and find out why I am targeting scoreless innings in Milwaukee vs Washington, and Detroit vs Philadelphia!
YRFI/NRFI Best Bet: Brewers vs Nationals – NRFI (-125)
Odds available at FanDuel sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -135 odds.
Jacob Misiorowski has been sensational for the Milwaukee Brewers since his MLB call-up, recording 33.1 innings with a 2.70 ERA and 47 strikeouts. His all-star nod was admittedly premature and something I wasn’t a fan of, but his talent is undeniable and jumps off the screen when watching him. Misiorowski now faces a Nationals lineup that ranks 10th in wOBA against right-handed pitching within the first inning this season, but they are without Alex Call — who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Regardless of the lineup orientation for Washington today, I expect Misiorowski to come out fired up and throwing strikes with his nasty stuff.
Brad Lord is set to start Sunday’s game for the Nationals, marking his ninth start and 38th appearance overall on the season. Lord began the year in a traditional reliever role before a handful of semi-successful starts. He transitioned back into a reliever role but has since re-entered the starting rotation following the all-star break. Lord has posted a 3.27 ERA overall on the season, including 9.1 innings with only 2 runs allowed in his last 2 outings. While not necessarily a pitcher I am aiming to back often, I do believe he can provide us with a clean first inning this afternoon.
YRFI/NRFI Best Bet: Tigers vs Phillies – NRFI (-115)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -130.
The Sunday Night Baseball game is an interesting matchup between the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies. Charlie Morton is set to make his Tigers debut following the trade deadline acquisition Detroit made just minutes before the clock ran out. Morton has ugly-looking numbers on the surface, but he has clearly been pitching better since re-entering the starting rotation for Baltimore. While not a top-end starter anymore at this point in his career, “Ground ball Chuck” is still capable of eating innings and providing solid depth for this Tigers pitching staff. He should have some extra juice for this matchup given the increased stakes of his new situation and a chance to compete in what may be his final season.
Cristopher Sanchez is the real reason this NRFI intrigues me, however, as the southpaw pitcher has been one of the best lefties in the sport this season. His 2.55 ERA and 1.09 ERA across 130.2 innings of work have been a wonderful complement to the production they have received from Zack Wheeler. That 1-2 combo atop their rotation has been lethal for opposing lineups, and Sanchez is looking to continue his dominant season on prime-time television tonight. He faces a tough Tigers lineup that has been production against either handedness this season, but I trust Sanchez to avoid first-inning damage with his ground ball nature and strikeout capabilities.
