NBA Prop Bets Today: Cade Cunningham and Jeremiah Fears amongst best NBA Player Props for Monday

Like most Lithuanians, I started watching basketball from the age of six. I'm based out in London and played basketball at the University of Lincoln here in the UK. I had always had an interest in the NBA but things really took off in the summer of 2010. That year Linas Kleiza led Lithuania to 3rd place at the World Championships and signed with the Toronto Raptors to replace the departing Chris Bosh. I've been a Raptors fan since that day and I've not missed a game since. I've been handicapping games for more than a decade, specializing in player props. The NBA closed out the week last night with 3 contests that were decided by 3 points or less, including a surprising overtime win for the Sacramento Kings against the Houston Rockets. Monday’s 7-game slate will have a lot to live up to. With the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons in action, the ingredients should be there for another intriguing night. You can find all of our NBA picks for tonight’s matchups, but first, let’s take a look at my best NBA player prop bets for Monday, December 22.

Best NBA player prop bet: Jeremiah Fears (NO) over 2.5 assists (-114)

This seems like an incredibly low line for a starting NBA guard, especially considering that Jeremiah Fears has been consistently hitting this over. While never blowing this line out of the water, the New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie has managed to record 3 or more assists in 8 of his last 9 games. Tonight’s opponents should be favorable, too. The Dallas Mavericks are ranked 24th over the last 10 games in opponent assists per game. With Anthony Davis protecting the rim, it should force Fears to kick the ball out when in the paint. With the Pelicans’ 9th over that same stretch of games in true shooting percentage, his teammates should be well-positioned to convert after the pass.

NBA player prop pick: Jusuf Nurkic (UTA) over 3.5 assists (-102)

Jusuf Nurkic has been on a good passing streak of late. The Utah Jazz center has managed a combined 19 assists in his last 3 games, hitting the over on this line in each of the contests. Tonight, he will be up against former teammate Nikola Jokic. The Jazz will look to make the former MVP work defensively, so should feature the Bosnian heavily in their offensive game plan. The Nuggets have ranked just 27th in defensive rating over the last 10 games and in the bottom 10 of the league in opponent assists per game. Last season against Denver, Nurkic averaged 5.7 assists per game, and on recent form, he should get close to these numbers.

NBA player prop bet: Cade Cunningham (DET) over 16.5 rebounds+assists (+102)

Detroit Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham is coming into this game following a triple-double performance against the Charlotte Hornets. Considering he was just an assist shy of one against the Mavericks in the game before that, too, he has been stuffing the stat sheet of late.

The Trail Blazers should prove to be the type of opponent Cunningham would enjoy playing against. Over the last 10 games, they are just 25th in opponent rebounds per game while also being in the bottom half of the league in opponent assists. The Trail Blazers are also 6th in the league in three-point attempts per game during that stretch. The Pistons are 2nd in opponent three-point percentage during that time, so expect there to be plenty of long rebounding opportunities for Cunningham to chase down.
