It is not a surprise that this series is knotted up at 2-2 through 4 games. What is surprising is that none of the 4 games have been very close. The wins have been by 2 goals, 4, 4 and 3 goals. These are a couple of very good teams who are very well acquainted. We’ll see if the trends change in Game 5 or if it is another blowout. After tonight, either the Oilers or Golden Knights will be on the brink of a clinch, so this should be a good one.

Oilers -1.5 (+185)

Neither the Oilers or Golden Knights will go deeper into the playoffs if they don’t reverse this trend of losing big after winning big, but Edmonton’s top-end talent looks poised to get on top. Edmonton bounced back again from a big loss with a big win and the Oilers are now 8-4 in their last 12 games against Vegas. They are also 10-2 in their last 12 on the road and 5-1 in their last 6 on the road in Vegas.

Despite the win, Game 4 ended with a bad taste in the Oilers’ mouth. There is serious bad blood between these teams and they have a major chip on their shoulder after the dirty plays and scrap that ended the game. Alex Pietrangelo is suspended for Game 5, which leaves Vegas extremely exposed to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and that outweighs Darnell Nurse’s suspension for Edmonton. McDavid and Draisaitl will be on a mission and that bodes very well for the Oilers.

Over 5.5 goals (-225)

Either the Oilers or Golden Knights have scored 4+ goals in each of the 4 games of this series. The average game total has been 6.75 and if that trend holds true, this one will go over the lower alternative total of 5.5 relatively comfortably. The offensive talent in this game speaks for itself and has been on full display. The Golden Knights’ loss of Pietrangelo for Game 5 gives the Oilers’ stars more space than they would have had, so Edmonton can do their part in going over this total.

It should not take many goals for Vegas to do their part as well. Their goalscoring was just okay during the regular season, but they have picked it up in the playoffs as their goals scored per game is up to 3.56. To no surprise, the Oilers lead the playoffs with 3.90 goals scored per game. These teams should blow by this alternative 5.5 total.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins anytime goalscorer (+160)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finally tucked away his first goal of the playoffs in Game 4. He has been quiet but still has 8 points in 10 games of these playoffs including 4 points in 4 games this series. Maybe it just took playing the Golden Knights to get him back on track. With a goal and an assist on Wednesday, Nugent-Hopkins now has 2 goals and 11 assists in 8 games against Vegas between the regular season and playoffs.

Nugent-Hopkins tallied 37 goals and 104 points in 82 regular-season games. Having not missed a game in 2022-2023 (hopefully no jinx) and still logging 1.22 points per game, this guy is plain reliable. He is on the Oilers’ top line with McDavid and Zach Hyman and centers the top power play with McDavid, Hyman, Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard. If these teams continue to produce, Nugent-Hopkins is in as good of a spot as anyone to be a contributor. He has shown the ability to do so plenty this season.
