I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Our weekend of NHL action is capped off with a solid 6-game slate on Sunday. The NFL may get the majority of the attention, but even ESPN is broadcasting the first game on the ice today. It’s an earlier afternoon matchup, and we’ve even targeted it for our mega parlay. We’re also eyeing a road underdog and the nightcap to help finish off your weekend with a big boost to your bankroll. With an earlier puck drop than most nights, let’s check out our 3 favorite plays.

Before we dive in, be sure to check out our NHL picks for today’s action.

Colorado Avalanche 3-way ML (+158) over St. Louis Blues

That featured ESPN game is in the Midwest with the Blues hosting the Avalanche. Colorado has received a lot of flak recently for its disappointing results, but that has provided more value on the Avs in this spot. Generally the defending Stanley Cup champions are significant favorites, but due to injuries, they aren’t the juggernaut they otherwise could be. However, that doesn’t mean they’re incapable of winning this game.

Firstly, the Blues have been wildly inconsistent through these first 2 months. In fact, they’ve only been consistent in terms of losing as of late. They’ve lost 7 of their last 9 games, and don’t want to relive their last memory of the Avalanche coming into town. The last time Colorado was at Enterprise Center, they were knocking the Blues out of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Even down a few skaters, they can do so again with St. Louis allowing the 4th-most goals per game and 2nd-most on home ice. Valeri Nichushkin is also back healthy and should lead the Avs to an afternoon win.

Seattle Kraken ML (+128) over Florida Panthers

Last season, this matchup would have been one of the biggest mismatches in the NHL. The Kraken were in their inaugural season as a franchise and the Panthers went on to win the Presidents’ Trophy for the NHL’s best record. However, things are much different this year. The Kraken are now the ones sitting at 15-8-3 and one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Even after dropping 3 straight, they’re even more primed for a bounce-back spot.

Meanwhile, the Panthers have been rather mediocre sitting at 13-10-4 after losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning just last night. That of course also plays a part in this pick, as they’ll be on the second night of a back-to-back. Traveling back home may sound like a boost for Florida, but that may not end up being the case. The Kraken have thrived outside of Seattle. They are the highest-scoring team in that regard, averaging 4.18 goals per game on the road. The Panthers mustered up just 1 goal in their loss last night, which certainly isn’t going to cut it against Seattle.

Don’t miss out on our NHL player props – we went 2-0 yesterday!

Boston Bruins 3-way ML (+124) over Vegas Golden Knights

This play is listed as low as -110 on some sportsbooks, so be sure to shop around for the best price. We snagged ours at FanDuel Sportsbook, and they don’t seem to be giving the Bruins nearly enough respect. They’ve been buzzing all season, and will be out for revenge. It was the Golden Knights that snapped their 14-0 home record last Monday, which set an NHL record.

They needed overtime and shootout to do so, and we anticipate Boston getting their revenge without needing extra time. There’s no denying that Vegas is one of the most improved teams this season, but they also haven’t been as consistent lately. Following that narrow win over the Bruins, they were smashed 5-1 by the New York Rangers on home ice and needed overtime to beat the lowly Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. That’s not going to cut it against a Boston team that allows just 2.15 goals per game, the fewest in the NHL. They’ll have the recent loss on their minds and should come out strongly.
