NBA

Like most Lithuanians, I started watching basketball from the age of six. I'm based out in London and played basketball at the University of Lincoln here in the UK. I had always had an interest in the NBA but things really took off in the summer of 2010. That year Linas Kleiza led Lithuania to 3rd place at the World Championships and signed with the Toronto Raptors to replace the departing Chris Bosh. I've been a Raptors fan since that day and I've not missed a game since. I've been handicapping games for more than a decade, specializing in player props. After just a single NBA game yesterday, we get treated to a huge 12-game slate to start off the week. With 24 teams in action, there is plenty to look out for. That includes cross-conference matchups between the Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics as well as the Memphis Grizzlies clashing with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. You can find out all of our NBA picks for today’s big matchups, but for now, let’s dive into my best NBA player prop bets tonight.

Domantas Sabonis (SAC) over 35.5 points & rebounds (-115)

Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis has been in fantastic form for the Kings. He has recorded at least 23 points in 4 straight games, managing at least 18 rebounds in 3 of the contests, and should be poised to continue that run here. He has already been able to record an 18-rebound performance against the Brooklyn Nets earlier in the season. With the Nets lacking floor-spacing bigs, he will be well-positioned to replicate this once more. Over the last 10 games, the Nets are also 25th in opponent points in the paint, somewhere that Sabonis tends to thrive in scoring the ball. He will likely have the strength advantage over Nic Claxton in the paint and should be able to push him around inside, getting to scoring position. Back him to have another great all-around night tonight.

Tim Hardaway Jr. (DET) over 11.5 points (-120)

Tim Hardaway Jr. has been a great floor spacer for the Detroit Pistons, knocking down 37.9% of his three-point attempts this season. He will get the chance to go up against a Cleveland Cavaliers team that is dead last in opponent three-point percentage over the last 10 games, something that should help him thrive offensively here. He managed to knock down 3 shots from beyond the arc in his last meeting against the Cavaliers in just over 23 minutes of playing time. Considering that he is averaging closer to 32 minutes in January so far, he should have the opportunity to better that here. Hardaway has done a better job of getting to the free-throw line too, managing 24 attempts over his last 5 games. If he can get 4 or 5 tonight too, it will set him up perfectly to hit the Over on his points prop here.

Nick Richards (PHX) over 9.5 rebounds (-115)

Nick Richards has fitted in seamlessly with the Phoenix Suns so far, doing exactly what a team full of scoring talent requires from a center. His work on the glass has been terrific, having recorded double-digit rebounds in 3 of his 4 games for the team. That includes a fantastic 19-rebound performance in his last outing against the Washington Wizards. He was able to record 34 minutes of playing time against them, the first time he surpassed the 30-minute mark for the Suns.

If Richards continues his form, mid-30 minutes should become the norm. Tonight, he will be matched up against Ivica Zubac. The Clippers center does not space the floor well, meaning the battle between these 2 will take place in the paint. Zubac is a scoring threat and Richards will have to be on the floor to help the Suns counter this. Considering he is averaging 9.3 rebounds in just under 22 minutes over his last 8 games, he should be able to reach double-digit boards tonight.
