Minnesota Vikings -3.5 over Cleveland Browns (-105)

From a situational perspective, this is one of the best spots on the board. The Vikings will have the benefit of staying overseas after just competing in Europe, while the Browns are coming off a non-competitive loss against the Lions and will have to head back to the states for a game against the Steelers in just over a week’s time. All of this sets up for a pretty sluggish Cleveland team that should be expected to struggle against the Vikings defense likely to feast against a depleted Browns offensive line and wide receiver corps.

As for Minnesota, the Vikings defense has been a top 10 unit in football without a doubt, and Brian Flores should have new Browns rookie starter Dillon Gabriel in a world of hurt in his first ever NFL start. On the other side of the ball, Carson Wentz has been perfectly serviceable as a starter in Kevin O’Connell’s offense, and even though I have serious concerns about his propensity to turn the ball over, the Vikings should ride the ground game and look to grind out scoring drives against Cleveland’s stout defense. All it should take is a few scoring drives for Minnesota to win and cover this number in a spot where they’ll hold a massive travel and body clock edge on Sunday.

Under 36.5 (-120)

This is a preposterously-low total for an NFL game, but I can only look toward the under in what should be a gross game from start to finish. As previously mentioned, Brian Flores’ defense is one that should immediately fluster Gabriel in his first NFL start, especially considering the unfamiliar environment and travel at hand for the Browns. The Browns will likely look to keep the ball on the ground considering the circumstances, which should shorten the game considerably. As for the Vikings, I have real concerns about this makeshift offensive line and their ability to block a fierce Browns pass rush that has been one of the best in football to this point. It’s hard to recommend any total under 37, but I’d rather have the under in London.

Dillon Gabriel under 172.5 passing yards (-112)

This is a prop bet that goes hand-in-hand with my handicap on the game, as the Vikings winning and cover the number aligns nicely with Gabriel going under his passing yards prop. Even if the situational spot was better for Gabriel, I still wouldn’t like his chances to succeed all that much given the matchup at hand against the experienced and blitz-heavy Minnesota defense. Due to Gabriel’s inexperience and him being thrust into action on such short notice this week, I’d expect that the Browns opt to keep the ball on the ground for large stretches of this one, which should shorten the game considerably. It’s hard to imagine the former Oregon quarterback seeing much success through the air in this contest.
