Wimbledon Parlay: Iga Swiatek ML over Clara Tauson and Ekaterina Alexandrova ML over Belinda Bencic (-103)

Swiatek appears to be heating up on grass, to the extent that it may be time for her to capture her first title on this surface on the biggest stage in tennis, as I predicted at the start of the tournament. The 5-time Grand Slam champion is coming off a runner-up effort in Bad Homburg and has mostly coasted so far at Wimbledon. She dropped 1 set to Caty McNally in round 2 but then dominated the next 2 and destroyed Danielle Collins on Saturday. Clara Tauson is also playing well, but prior to this summer, she was an anemic 2-6 lifetime on grass. Heading into Monday she still has a losing record on it (8-9). Moreover, the Dane trails the head-to-head series with Swiatek 2-0. It will likely be 3-0 after this one.

Meanwhile, Ekaterina Alexandrova is 2-1 H2H against Belinda Bencic after annihilating the Swiss veteran 6-1, 6-2 less than 2 weeks ago in Bad Homburg. Why would there be any reason to think that Bencic can suddenly and drastically turn the tide on the same surface? There isn’t! Adding insult to injury for the underdog, Alexandrova has not dropped a single set this fortnight whereas Bencic is coming off a 3-set marathon against Elisabetta Cocciaretto (won in a final-set tiebreaker).

Wimbledon best bet: Flavio Cobolli ML over Marin Cilic (+100)

Just 3 men reached the 4th round without losing a single set, one of them being Flavio Cobolli. I doubt anyone had that on their Bingo card, but full credit to the Italian for playing some incredible tennis in Week 1. He was especially impressive throughout a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 rout of Jakub Mensik in the 3rd round. Cilic is also in fine form, but the Croat is a 36-year-old with a history of injury problems and he has already played 10 matches on grass this summer. That kind of workload is good to get in a rhythm, but it can also take a toll from a physical standpoint.

Moreover, Cobolli leads the head-to-head series 2-0 after he just thrashed Cilic 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 in round 1 at Roland Garros. Obviously a clay-court result does not mean a whole lot now that they have taken their talents to grass, but it should still give Cobolli some confidence – as if he needs any more given how well he is playing right now.

Wimbledon prediction: Ben Shelton -0.5 aces over Lorenzo Sonego (-175)

Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Sonego have faced each other 4 times, including twice already at majors this season alone. The American won both encounters to take a 3-1 lead in the head-to-head. He is leading the ace battle to an even greater extent. In 4 H2H showdowns, Shelton has cracked 32 aces to Sonego’s 18; in the last 2 it’s a whopping 24 to 6 in the left-hander’s favor. As for the first week in London, don’t be fooled by total ace count – which is 41 for Sonego and 34 for Shelton. The Italian has played 12 sets, whereas Shelton has contested the minimum 9. What’s important to note is the aces per game average; that’s 0.68 for Shelton and 0.63 for Sonego. All indicators are that Shelton will fire more aces on Monday…perhaps with room to spare.
