The Chicago Blackhawks opened the new season with a 3-2 loss at the hands of the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. It was a valiant effort from Chicago, who was ultimately kept in the game thanks to the stellar play of goaltender Spencer Knight. Knight made 34 saves as his team was out-shot 37-19 and lost the face-off battle 41-29. Losing the puck possession battle could be a common theme for the Blackhawks as they navigate another season of their long rebuild. The good news is that Connor Bedard has a strong linemate in newcomer Andre Burakovsky, and the development of players like Frank Nazar and Sam Rinzel could provide some bight moments this season.

David Pastrnak will once again need to do a lot of heavy lifting for the Bruins in 2025. Pastrnak racked up 106 points last season, with Morgan Geekie finishing second on the team with 57. That’s a huge gap which will most likely be the case again this season. But still, Pastrnak is one of the most electric playmakers in the game and is capable of propelling the Bruins to great offensive success on any given night. Neither of these teams are great on the back end, and there’s enough offensive potential on both sides to make the over the play.
