Panthers vs Hurricanes Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Panthers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals with a 5-2 win in Game 1 on Tuesday night. The loss continued Carolina’s struggles in the conference finals, as the Hurricanes have now dropped 13 consecutive Eastern Conference Finals games since 2009. The 5 goals that the Hurricanes allowed in Game 1 are the most they have allowed in a game so far this postseason. If Rod Brind’Amour’s squad is going to even up the series in Game 2, they are going to need to lean on their strong defensive game. Carolina still out-shot Florida 33-20, but Frederik Andersen couldn’t hold things down between the pipes. Despite the poor performance, Andersen still owns a strong 1.74 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in the postseason. Look for Carolina to come out strong defensively, which could give Andersen a solid chance at a bounce-back performance.
On the other side, Florida also plays a stout defensive game. The Panthers have allowed just 6 total goals in their last 5 postseason games, going 4-1 in that span. Sergei Bobrovsky had a tough couple of games against the Maple Leafs last round, but he seems to be back on track, making 119 saves on 125 shots (.952 save percentage) over his last 5 games. After 7 total goals were scored in Game 1, Game 2 could be a lower-scoring contest. I’m looking to the Under with confidence for tonight’s matchup.
