Montreal has gotten off to a red-hot start — posting a 5-2-0 record with 2 of those wins coming on the road — but it’s always been a challenge for this team to go into Calgary and win games. There is also the emerging goaltender controversy between starter Samuel Montembeault and backup Jakub Dobes. Montembeault has gotten off to a terrible start, posting a 3.26 GAA and a .857 SV%; his counterpart is 3-0-0 with a 1.64 GAA and a .939 SV%. Will the Canadiens keep giving their starter the chance to find his game? Or do they turn to Dobes more often because of his strong start?

It’s hard to be a rookie goalie in the NHL, so some regression was expected — but not to this level. Their power play isn’t good, their penalty kill is no better, and they aren’t generating a ton of shots. The Canadiens aren’t that much better in any of those categories, but they are winning games. This game will probably be close, but if we’re wagering dollars on this matchup, we should trust the better team to get the job done.
