Islanders vs Penguins Pickswise Expert Predictions

New York Islanders
Money Line Pick
PIT Penguins Win(+115)

The opening week of the NHL continues to roll on, as the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins hit the ice as part of a busy Thursday night. The Penguins have already made their debut to the season in an impressive 3-0 win against the New York Rangers. Now, they host the Islanders for New York’s first game of the season. Here are our Islanders vs. Penguins predictions.

Not too long ago, the Islanders and Penguins were perennial playoff threats. Now, they are both going through a major shift in rosters and expectations. I expect both squads to perform similarly, and to end up near each other in the standings. For this game, I have the Penguins taking the win. An opening night win may not mean much in an 82-game schedule, but make no mistake, the Penguins locker room is feeling good. They shutout a Rangers team who is no pushover, and were on the road. Now they get to return home and have an excellent opportunity to start 2-0-0. The building will be rocking, and they now have their feet wet in regular season play, which New York does not yet. It should be a tight contest, but give me the Pittsburgh Penguins as underdogs.
