De’Aaron Fox’s odds to win NBA Clutch Player of the Year are also +1200 at DraftKings. Fox won the inaugural NBA Clutch Player of the Year award last season, as he led the NBA with 194 clutch points last season, 35 points ahead of DeMar DeRozan who finished second. Fox has a knack for coming up big in crunch time and certainly deserves to be listed among the NBA Clutch Player of the Year favorites. The question will be whether or not voters will choose to give the award to someone else this season since Fox won last year.

Luka Doncic NBA Clutch Player of the Year Odds

The final player with NBA Clutch Player of the Year odds 2023-24 of +1200 at DraftKings is Luka Doncic. Doncic certainly has the reputation of being a clutch player and tied for seventh in clutch points last season. A big reason why Luka Doncic is among the NBA Clutch Player of the Year favorites is opportunity. According to NBA.com, Doncic finished third in usage rate last season, behind only Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The ball is going to be in Luka’s hands in crunch time and if he can perform well this season, he will have a great chance of winning the award.

NBA Clutch Player of the Year Predictions: Who Will Win in 2023-24?

Even though there are three NBA Clutch Player of the Year favorites, no player has odds less than +1200 at DraftKings. In fact, there are 20 NBA Clutch Player of the Year candidates with odds of +3000 or less. This means that it is going to be difficult to pick the winner of this year’s award. 

With that being said, let’s make some NBA Clutch Player of the Year predictions. The NBA Clutch Player of the Year favorites are all worthy choices, but we are going to select a different player with our 2023-24 NBA Clutch Player of the Year predictions. The NBA Clutch Player of the Year odds we are selecting is Donovan Mitchell at +1700. Mitchell finished fifth in clutch points last season with 138, which is 56 less than De’Aaron Fox. However, Mitchell’s fourth-quarter scoring average was just 0.3 points less than that of Fox. 

Additionally, Donovan Mitchell finished 11th in usage rate last season, which means he will have the opportunity to perform in the clutch. When compared to some of the other NBA Clutch Player of the Year candidates, there is not much competition for Mitchell in terms of who will get the ball down the stretch. For example, Luka Doncic will also have Kyrie Irving in the mix, Damian Lillard will have Giannis, and Devin Booker will have Kevin Durant to share the late-game shots with. 

The award is certainly tough to predict, but we are picking Donovan Mitchell at +1700 with our 2023-24 NBA Clutch Player of the Year predictions.

NBA Clutch Player of the Year 2023-24: Long-shot candidates to watch

Given the unpredictability of the award, it isn’t the worst idea to select some long-shot NBA Clutch Player of the Year candidates. One name that stands out is Jimmy Butler at +2000. Butler finished second in the voting last season and led the playoffs with 46 clutch points. Playoff games are not factored into the voting, but Butler’s reputation as a clutch player was further developed during Miami’s playoff run.

Our NBA Clutch Player of the Year predictions are based on several factors. The most obvious method of analysis is simply to use NBA.com’s “clutch” stat filter. This filters stats into the last five minutes of the 4th quarter and overtime so that we can easily see things like total points, shooting percentages, and even the team’s record in those games. 

From there, we like to look for players that could potentially creep near the top of the list for this coming season. One of the best ways to do that is to look at usage rate. Usage rate highlights players that will have the ball in their hands a lot, often in critical moments. A role player is going to have a hard time winning the Clutch Player of the Year award even if they shoot 80 percent from the field, as the volume will be lacking. With only one winner of the award in its existence, it’s hard to know what the voters will think when it comes to voting for the award, but this is how we made our 2023-24 NBA Clutch Player of the Year predictions.

How the NBA Clutch Player of the Year is decided

The NBA Clutch Player of the Year award is determined by a group of media members from the US and Canada. Each voter casts a first, second, and third-place vote for the award and the votes are tallied as follows: first-place votes are worth five points, second-place votes are worth three, and third-place votes are worth one point. The player who receives the most points is the winner of the award. The winner of the award receives the Jerry West Trophy. The 2022-23 season was the first time the award was given out.

Trends & Statistics for the NBA Clutch Player of the Year

As mentioned above, the 2022-23 season was the first season in which the NBA Clutch Player of the Year award was handed out. This obviously means that there are no trends that can be discovered yet.
