Nevada is a unique state in the US legal sports betting industry since NV has allowed gambling and retail sportsbooks long before any other state. Even online sports betting has been permitted in Nevada since 2010, making it the first state to allow the practice.
There are, however, some wrinkles in Nevada’s sports betting laws in regard to online wagering. One is that you must sign up for an online sportsbook at a physical location, which is not the case in all states that allow legal sports betting.
Here we will get into everything that you need to know about Nevada sports betting. We’ll start with the most essential question: is sports betting legal in Nevada?
Is it legal to gamble on sports in Nevada?
It has been legal to gamble on sports in Nevada since 1931. Online sports betting has been permitted since 2010, albeit with the requirement to register for sportsbooks at a retail location.
Nevada is synonymous with sports betting and is the most prominent pioneering state in the industry by a significant margin. For many years and to this day, people worldwide travel to Nevada to gamble on sports and more.
Best online Nevada sports betting sites
While Nevada is arguably the most significant state in sports betting overall, the online betting landscape is unique compared to many other states. This is due to Nevada having already offered many brick-and-mortar and online sportsbooks prior to legalization in many other US states.
Careful attention was paid to maintaining the control of the sports betting industry by existing entities, meaning that few online sportsbooks available in other states can be accessed in Nevada. There is no reason to expect this to change in the near future.
In addition, one cannot bet on an actual sportsbook website in Nevada, as you can in many states. Mobile sports betting in NV is only available via apps.
Only two of the top online sportsbooks we recommend throughout the US are available in Nevada. And furthermore, they are not actually the same apps, although owned by the same entities. Still, we will review these popular sportsbooks and analyze other options that are available in the state.
1. BetMGM Sportsbook
BetMGM Sportsbook is the only online sportsbook in NV offering very close to the same app/online experience that it does elsewhere in the country. The app is slightly different in Nevada yet still holds much of the same functionality. You must sign up for the BetMGM app at an MGM property in Nevada, such as the Bellagio, Aria, Mandalay Bay or any of the many MGM Resorts International locations.
BetMGM offers an extensive range of sports to bet on, including NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and other US favorites, in addition to niche and international options. Odds at BetMGM are about as good as what you’d find on average, and there is an excellent selection of bet types available as well,
This includes everything from standard money lines, point spreads and totals (over/under) to multi-leg options like parlays, teasers and round robins. The selection of props and futures is also among the best available in the industry. Futures lines tend to post quite early compared to the competition at BetMGM.
Another critical benefit of betting with BetMGM is to bolster your reward status with the MGM Resorts brand. This is all the more true if you plan on betting from Nevada as a resident or tourist. The rewards all start when you sign up and make your first bet.
BetMGM offers a second-chance bet of up to $1,000 based on your first wager. You must wager at least $10, and within 24 hours, an equivalent bonus bet will be available on your account, assuming your first wager loses. Only winnings will be collected on second-chance bets, not the amount wagered.
2. Caesars Sportsbook
Caesars Sportsbook is the only option other than BetMGM available in other states to offer an app in Nevada. However, the version of the app in NV is very different from the national version. Yet, it at least shares the name in part, although known as Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill in Nevada. You can sign up for the Caesars Sportsbook app at the Caesars Entertainment properties throughout Nevada.
Caesars offers an excellent selection of sports and bet types. These include popular American sports and an excellent selection of more exotic options. Bet types abound, from standard sides (money line and point spread) and totals (over/under) to more advanced options.
We also highly recommend taking advantage of the generous Caesars Rewards program. As you bet, you will gain additional status with the Caesars brand overall, and these credits can be used at the Caesars range of properties in Nevada. The benefits begin for new users immediately in states where Caesars offers its lucrative sign-up bonus.
New sports bettors in active states can register for Caesars and get $1,250 in bet credits. Lose your first bet up to $1,250, and you’ll receive bet credits equal to your losses within two business days. As is standard, wagers made using the bonus bets will only pay out winnings, not the amount at stake.
Other online sports betting apps in Nevada
Since Nevada is a unique state in the online sports betting landscape, we must briefly cover the variety of betting apps that are specific to NV. Still, our highest recommendations are BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook.
Atlantis Sports Nevada
Atlantis Sports Nevada is a Reno-based app. It is the sportsbook app for Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and is run entirely independently with no partnership with an outside operator.
B-Connected Sports is the betting app for Nevada casinos like the Gold Coast, the Orleans, the Cannery and Sam’s Town. These properties are owned and operated by Boyd Gaming.
The Circa Sports app is new to the Nevada online sports betting landscape. This is the app of the Circa Casino and the sportsbook at the Golden Gate in Las Vegas.
Golden Nugget NV Sportsbook
Golden Nugget NV Sportsbook app is independent and originates lines and odds. Golden Nugget owner Tilman Fertitta owns the Houston Rockets, so none of the Golden Nugget NBA lines can reflect Rockets games, props or futures.
Nevada Sports Books (South Point and Rampart)
Although the apps for the South Point Casino and the Rampart Casino are not the same, odds are shared, making them essentially linked.
STN sports is the first sportsbook app to launch in Nevada and, in turn, the United States as a whole. This app offers a biometric sign-in feature, making it unique in its added layer of security.
The TI sports app is Treasure Island’s mobile sportsbook offering. Treasure Island was formerly an MGM property but is now an independent entity located on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Westgate Superbook is known as arguably the most famous sportsbook in the nation. For this reason, its app is notable for representing the brand alone.
The William Hill app in Nevada is a different app than the Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill app. It is still owned by Caesars Entertainment but is available at different properties than the other app, including the Venetian, the Hard Rock Las Vegas and the Palms.
The Wynn Sports sportsbook app represents the Wynn Las Vegas and the Encore Las Vegas. It is a different app than the nationally available WynnBET app.
How to sign-up for a sports betting account in Nevada?
Signing up for a sports betting account in Nevada differs from in many states that offer legal sports betting. You must physically go to a sportsbook in a retail casino to sign up.
Upon doing so, you can bet from the mobile app associated with that sportsbook. The process will vary slightly depending on what sportsbook you visit and what registration details they require.
Best Nevada sports betting mobile apps
Unfortunately, of the sportsbooks we recommend, only two are available in Nevada. On top of that, they are not precisely the same apps and are generally considered somewhat less refined than their national counterparts.
Still, those looking to bet on sports from their mobile devices in Nevada should be pleased with the offerings from BetMGM and Caesars. Let’s take a look at the apps and some of the specifics of their features.
1. BetMGM Sportsbook mobile app
The BetMGM Sportsbook mobile app in Nevada is a bit different than the app that’s available in other states. Users generally report it to be somewhat less modern in its appearance and functionality. Still, it will undoubtedly get the job done when looking to bet remotely in NV.
The app is available for both iOS and Android. Apple users can download it directly from the App Store, while those with Android devices need to download the app from the BetMGM Sportsbook website. All users in Nevada will have to sign up for the sportsbook at a physical MGM Resorts location prior to being able to bet with the app.
We have found the organization of sports and bet types to be intuitive and streamlined. It is also easy to access administrative options like banking, customer service and rewards program perks and promotions. One place where we have found the BetMGM app to particularly shine is with the live betting selection and the organization thereof.
2. Caesars Sportsbook mobile app
The Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill app in Nevada is even less similar to its national counterpart than that of BetMGM. Still, those looking to bet on the go in Nevada should be pleased by its functionality overall.
Available for iOS and Android, Apple users can download the Caesars app directly from the App Store, while the Google Play Store does not allow downloading gambling apps directly from its store. For this reason, it must be obtained from the Caesars Sportsbook website for Android devices. All users, regardless of device, must sign up at a Caesars property before betting on the app.
A particular benefit of the Caesars app is the mobile bet slip. It is among the most intuitive we have found in the industry and is very easy to populate and comprehend.
Again, the app could use some work to catch up with the Caesars app in other states. Still, we have generally found it satisfactory and a massive improvement over needing to visit a physical location for sports gambling in Nevada.
Best Nevada sports betting promo codes and bonuses
Due to the nature of online sports betting in Nevada, you will not find as many promos as you may in other states. Still, here we will take a look at the promotions available at our two top-recommended options for NV sports betting.
1. BetMGM Sportsbook promo codes and bonuses
A second-chance $1,000 wager is offered to new sign-ups by BetMGM. The offer is simple: place a qualifying initial bet, and if it loses, BetMGM will match it with bet credits of up to $1,000. As is standard for these offers, you will only collect your winnings on bonus bets, not the amount wagered.
2. Caesars Sportsbook promo codes and bonuses
New Caesars sign-ups will enjoy a bonus bet of up to $1,250 in eligible states. If your first wager loses, it will be matched up to $1,250. Per usual, only winnings will be collected on bet credits, not the amount bet.

Can you bet on college sports in Nevada?
Previously, provisions existed for college sports betting in Nevada, yet these have been entirely lifted. You can bet on college sports in Nevada, including in-state NCAA teams.
There are no restrictions, making Nevada one of the most lenient states in its NCAA betting rules and regulations. This is excellent news for fans of prominent Nevada college teams like the UNLV Rebels and the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Betting on Nevada teams
Nevada has always been an unusual state in terms of sports fandom. While arguably the largest hotbed for interest in sports in the country due to legalized sports betting prior to other states following suit, Nevada was not permitted to have top-level professional teams until recently.
This was due to the concern that the availability of sports betting could taint the integrity of the professional leagues and their games. This has, however, changed in recent years, with the Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL becoming the first major professional team in Las Vegas. The relocation of the NFL’s Raiders to Las Vegas followed suit, drastically changing the Nevada professional sports landscape.
The NBA Summer League also takes place in Nevada, and a WNBA team, the Las Vegas Aces, calls the state home. Nevada also boasts two Triple-A minor league baseball teams, the Las Vegas Aviators and Reno Aces.
There appears to be a reasonable chance that Oakland Athletics may follow their Bay Area NFL counterparts and relocate to Las Vegas in the near future, adding an MLB team to the Nevada pro sports mix. For the moment, let’s take a look at the top sports and teams to bet on in Nevada right now.
Nevada NFL betting
In the NFL, the Las Vegas Raiders are a top franchise among Nevada football enthusiasts. In 2020, the move was made, relocating the team from Oakland to the brand-new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Of course, due to the lack of a professional team until recently and the transient nature of Las Vegas, there are fans of many NFL contingents in Nevada.
Our top-recommended sportsbooks, like BetMGM, have excellent NFL betting options such as money lines, point spreads, totals (over/under), parlays, round robins and teasers. You will also find the most outstanding selection of prop bets in the NFL, in addition to a robust futures market.
Nevada NBA betting
Although there is no NBA team in Nevada, the state boasts the NBA Summer League each year and a WNBA contingent in the Las Vegas Aces. Still, Las Vegas is notorious for having residents and visitors from all over the country and the world. There is much interest in many NBA teams among the diverse populous.
The sportsbooks we recommend, including Caesars Sportsbook, offer various NBA options. These include money lines, point spreads, totals (over/under), in-game betting, props and more.
Nevada MLB betting
While there is no MLB team in Nevada, two Triple-A teams call the state home, and we may see the Oakland Athletics relocate to Las Vegas in the near future. In the meantime, Nevada residents come from all over the country and root for various teams, notably the Los Angeles Dodgers among those who have come from nearby Southern California.
Nevada sports betting enthusiasts can enjoy MLB bets like money lines and run lines (the baseball equivalent of a point spread), totals (over/under), parlays, props, futures and more at our recommended sportsbooks. MLB prop betting can be fascinating, and BetMGM is known for its excellent selection of options.
Nevada NHL betting
The NHL took Nevada by storm when the Vegas Golden Knights became the first-ever high-level professional sports franchise in the state. On top of being a first for NV sports fans, the team entered the league with immediate success, reaching the Stanley Cup in its first year.
Common hockey bets available at our highest-ranked sportsbooks like Caesars and BetMGM include the money line, puck line (the hockey version of a point spread), totals (over/under), props, futures and more. There has never been a better time to be a hockey fan in the Silver State.
Nevada college teams
The lack of top-level professional sports teams in Nevada has made its college teams very popular among NV residents. Popular colleges include the UNLV Rebels (historically known for their basketball teams) and the Nevada Wolfpack.
There was a time when NCAA sports betting was banned in Nevada. Yet now it is entirely legal, including games taking place in Nevada and among Nevada colleges. Betting on NCAA football and basketball is very similar to their professional counterparts, although you will find fewer prop betting options.
Who can bet on sports in Nevada?
You must be 21 or over to bet on sports in Nevada. The same applies to any form of gambling at Nevada casinos.
If you want to bet on one of the state’s mobile apps, you will need a valid ID to sign up. Non-residents can bet on sports using Nevada betting apps while located in the state. Residents of Nevada cannot bet on these apps when located in other states.
Do you have to pay sports betting taxes on winnings in Nevada?
Nevada taxes gambling winnings like all other legal sports betting states. There is a flat 6.75% state tax and a federal tax rate of 24% for any winnings over $5,000.
You only have to pay the federal tax if your winnings are at least three times what you have wagered. For instance, if you bet $5,000 and win $5,000, you only need to pay state tax.
Taxes are the same regardless of whether you bet on a mobile app or at a physical sportsbook. The state tax rate is relatively low in Nevada compared to many other states with legal gambling, which can range all the way up to the mid-teens (Delaware taxes at 15.5%).
How does Nevada sports betting compare with neighboring states?
No other state can quite compare with Nevada’s gambling options overall. California is the most relevant neighboring state and does not allow sports betting in any capacity. Utah offers no form of regulated gambling at all.
Sports betting is illegal in Idaho. And while it is legal in Oregon, the options are fairly limited, although the top-notch DraftKings Sportsbook is available for mobile betting.
Arizona is one neighboring state that compares favorably with Nevada regarding its online sports betting options. Almost 20 online sportsbooks are available in AZ, including many of the top national sportsbook sites and apps.
Can you play fantasy sports in Nevada?
Nevada is the number one state in the country for gambling. Yet, there are no daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators active in the state.
Daily fantasy sports are actually legal in NV and are considered sports pools, gambling games, or lotteries. Still, Nevada has required all DFS providers to secure a gambling license in the state to be allowed to operate.
DraftKings and FanDuel ceased Nevada operations as of this requirement and have yet to reappear in the state. For now, residents and visitors must rely on sports betting rather than DFS when looking for online gambling in NV.
For those interested in DFS in states where it is legal, we highly recommend Fantasy Alarm. Daily fantasy sports can be challenging, and Fantasy Alarm offers an excellent selection of resources to help you up your DFS game.
