Zverev will be the world #1 on Monday regardless of what happens in Vienna. De Minaur is still chasing the final ATP Finals spot, sitting 129 points behind Jodar in the Race to Turin. A win on Saturday would put him just one point ahead of Jodar and into the last spot in the field, with Paris still to play.
The H2H has been one-sided as Zverev leads 8-0 in regular tour events and 9-4 overall. All four of De Minaur's wins have come in team competition, including the last two Laver Cups. Zverev also won their Shanghai quarterfinal 6-4, 6-4 earlier this month. The Demon has seen plenty of him lately.
De Minaur is 10-3 in Vienna and into his third straight semifinal here. He came back from a set down against Machac, beat Tien 6-4, 6-2 and took out Berrettini in straight sets on Friday. Zverev is 64-15 on the year but notably 8-10 against the top 20.
Both players have plenty to play for, but it is fair to say De Minaur has to want this one more. Turin is on the line and so is a first win over Zverev outside of team competition on his ninth try. He has looked great all week. I believe the upset is on, so I am backing the Demon to win a set at -129 with a smaller play on him outright.
Zverev vs De Minaur prediction: De Minaur +1.5 sets (-129) available at time of publishing.
