South Alabama and Arkansas State do battle on Thursday in Sun Belt action, and South Alabama is starting to resemble the high-flying team it was during the days of QB Gio Lopez and friends, prior to his departure for UNC, then Wake Forest. This team can score early and often. Arkansas State is looking to avoid an 0-2 conference hole, but it might not have the horses to keep up with the Jaguars.
The Jaguars rolled to an impressive 52-35 win last week over UL Monroe, covering as a 12.5-point favorite, but allowing 35 points to the WarHawks is a bit concerning -- unless you love Overs. The total has gone high in four straight for USA, with the Jaguars scoring 39 or more points in three of four games against non-power conference teams. They've also allowed 28+ points in four in a row, so, needless to say, South Alabama games are fun to watch. The Red Wolves are less prolific offensively, but they're coming off a 23-20 loss on the road, and they've allowed 110 points in four games against FBS programs, or 27.5 PPG. Let's go high, and don't look back.
