The Miami (OH) RedHawks hit the road to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday afternoon. The Chipps are 1-2 in conference play after taking a loss to Western Michigan last weekend. The Hawks are 2-1, with wins over Akron and UMass in the last two weekends. Both teams have quarterback issues, so we should expect a low-scoring, run-heavy game script for both teams. The under is certainly worth a look, but I also think Miami is the better team. Even on the road, I am content to take the RedHawks -2.5.
The season changed considerably for the RedHawks when starting QB David McComb was lost for the season. Before he went down, they were a dynamic offense with a strong passing attack. Since his injury, they cannot throw at all, and they are just a run-heavy team. Central Michigan always intended to be a run-heavy team, and that is just the way they play. Their starting QB left last week with a concussion, and we probably won’t know about him until close to kickoff. So this game comes down to how well the defenses hold up against the run. Season to date, Miami is a top-50 team against the run, allowing just over 100 rushing yards per game. The Chipps are near the bottom in the nation, allowing over 175 yards per game. I think that is the difference here. Give me the RedHawks to cover.
Miami (OH) vs Central Michigan prediction: Miami (OH) -2.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable to -3.
