The BYU Cougars head to Fort Collins to face the Colorado State Rams on Saturday night. The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start, getting a win over conference contender Arizona last week, and they look to be among the top teams in the Big 12. Colorado St is in a complete rebuild under new head coach Jim Mora, but they are off to an excellent start, winning both games and piling up a lot of offensive stats in the process. Doing it against Wyoming and Southern Utah is one thing, but against BYU and its elite defense? I am skeptical. Give me BYU -17.5.
BYU has one of the most potent QB-RB combos in the nation, and this team is hard-nosed, physical, and mean. I don’t like the chances of the Rams stopping this Cougar offense much, and I expect Colorado St to be several outmanned on that side of the ball. This spread will come down to the effectiveness of the CSU offense behind transfer QB Hauss Hejny. Hejny is a former 4-star recruit with a high ceiling, and he has thrown 9 TDs in the first 2 games. Call me skeptical, but I don’t think he can get anywhere close to those numbers against BYU. The Rams will be relevant in the Pac-12 this season, but this is a bad matchup. Oh, and there is rain in the forecast, and if that happens, that only aids the run-first, physical style of BYU, while also hurting the pass-happy attack of the Rams. I’ll take the Cougs.
BYU vs Colorado State Prediction: BYU -17.5 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable to -20.5.
