Despite a win in Week 1, the Colorado Buffaloes offense has been ugly in each of their first three FBS games this season. They haven’t scored more than 14 points in any of those games, and turnovers were an issue in the last two. Quarterback Julian Lewis isn’t confident in the pocket, and it has seemingly cost him his job, as Deion Sanders sounds like he’s making a change to backup Isaac Wilson – Zach Wilson’s brother. For reference, the Buffaloes are 98th in PPA per play and 103rd in success rate, while they’re outside the top 130 in points per scoring opportunity and outside the top 120 in havoc allowed, so a change is welcomed at this point. We’ll see how Wilson looks; he wasn’t great in his time under center at Utah in 2024.
Colorado has played each of its FBS games on the road, all of them in the central or eastern time zones, so I am trying to find some grace, but it’s hard to do that given their lack of scoring. Texas Tech may not be as strong as they were last year, but the Red Raiders are still a force on both sides of the ball, while Wilson hasn’t started a football game in two years. For what it’s worth, Texas Tech is top-45 in both sacks and tackles for loss, while Colorado is outside the top 110 in allowing both of those havoc plays. No matter who is under center, it’s likely going to be a tough go for the Buffaloes offensively in this one.
Texas Tech vs Colorado prediction: Texas Tech -12.5 (-112) available at time of publishing. Playable to -14.
