One of the showcase games in the SEC takes place on Saturday between the Oklahoma Sooners and Georgia Bulldogs in a matchup that looked a lot more appetizing a few weeks ago. I was pretty high on both of these teams heading into the season, but only one side has looked the part of a legitimate SEC contender and College Football Playoff team. That team is Georgia and the Bulldogs will get their first real test of the season this week against an Oklahoma side that is limping into this game. What will transpire between the hedges? It's almost time to find out.
To his credit, Kirby Smart has done an excellent job with getting his team to play focused, consistent football in the nonconference portion of the schedule — something that Georgia has somewhat struggled with in the past. The same can't be said for Oklahoma, as Brent Venables' team has struggled mightily over its first three games, particularly on offense. The Sooners hoped that their offensive line would bounce back after a myriad of injuries in 2025, but Oklahoma is still unable to run the ball. Turnovers have also been an issue for John Mateer and company, particularly in their loss to Michigan in Week 2. Following another extremely poor showing against New Mexico last week, the Sooners' offense is rewarded with a matchup against a Georgia defense that is among the best in the nation. Simply put, I'm not sure where the points are coming from with Oklahoma, and we can say something similar for Georgia's run-heavy offense against a Sooners defense that is still elite and should come to play in a desperate spot. All things considered, I'll roll with the under in this SEC clash.
