South Alabama has one of those offenses that's simply fun to watch when everything is clicking. The Jaguars have demonstrated how explosive they can be, putting up 41 points against Ohio, 52 against ULM and 56 on the road at Arkansas State. While their offense hasn't looked nearly as convincing over the last two games, that doesn't suddenly erase its ability to erupt. The potential for another offensive explosion is always there, which can help with clearing this line.
On the flip-side of that, South Alabama's defense has been susceptible to giving up points itself, which informs the other part of this over. That notion is particularly relevant against a Louisiana team that has scored at least 30 points in each of its last three games. The Ragin' Cajuns have demonstrated they can contribute offensively, which means South Alabama's ability to go off combined with a defense that is vulnerable against an opposing offense that is turning over creates a path to clear 58. If Louisiana produces another 30 points here, we're only asking the Jaguars to reach the high 20's. Given what we've already seen from their offense this season, that's hardly unreasonable. South Alabama's recent offensive struggles might discourage some bettors, but I'm more interested in the scoring potential of both teams and the defensive vulnerabilities involved. The confluence of those factors makes the over the preferred position here.
