Florida Atlantic vs North Texas Prediction, Odds and NCAAF Picks for Tomorrow

The American is home to plenty of explosive offenses and the top two offenses in the conference will square off on Thursday in a game that should feature plenty of fireworks from start to finish. North Texas is coming off another massive offensive showing in a win over Navy a week ago, while Florida Atlantic needed 51 points to barely knock off Rice at home. Oddsmakers are making it extremely difficult to take the over in this game, with the total set at a preposterous 77.5 points. Instead, I'll be focusing on the spread and taking a stab on the underdog to keep this one somewhat respectable.

Neal Brown has done an exceptional job in his first season at North Texas, as the Mean Green look like a serious contender in an American conference that suddenly feels like a race between a handful of teams. This is one of the best offenses in the nation, with the Mean Green ranking inside the top 5 in EPA per play and inside the top 15 in EPA per dropback and passing success rate. I don't expect the porous Florida Atlantic defense to slow down Jahiem White and company, but the Owls should do just enough with their electric passing offense to keep this game within the number. North Texas' relative strength on defense is against the run, but that's not what FAU wants to do at all. Instead, Zach Kittley's team will look to throw the ball early and often against a very shaky Mean Green secondary. There will be plenty of points in this game, but the backdoor should be wide open with the lack of defense at play.
