The Georgia Southern Eagles are a much better team than the 2-4 overall record represents. The Eagles have a 4-1 record against the spread, including two-possession games against P4 Houston and Clemson, along with a three-point loss to conference giant James Madison just last week. While the defense has had its concerns, the offense is producing. QB Max Johnson has been quite efficient, averaging 262 passing yards per game with three consecutive three-TD performances. While the ODU looked good against App State last week, I struggle to rely on the Monarchs’ unit after giving up six passing TDs to Georgia State and 405 yards against JMU.
On the other side of things, the ODU offense has been far from reliable. The Monarchs have failed to score more than 21 points in five consecutive weeks, a mark the Eagles have passed in five of six games this season. QB Quinn Henicle has more INTs than TDs thus far, and I expect the Monarchs to rely on the run game -- which won’t be an easy task. Georgia Southern’s front has already contributed more sacks in six games (15) than the Eagles did all of last season. With all things considered, I struggle to see ODU keeping up with Georgia Southern's passing game. I’ll take the Eagles to cover on the road.
