We have a matchup of the Big Ten’s biggest surprise against the Big Ten’s biggest disappointment in Eugene this week. While the Ducks’ offense has been arguably the most disappointing aspect of the 4-3 season thus far, this is a favorable spot to see an uptick in execution. Regardless of the quarterback situation, Northwestern ranks 88th in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game (152.7), which should be a favorable spot to take some pressure off the signal-caller.
While the Wildcats’ offensive production is no fluke, the Oregon defensive line is an elite unit that can disrupt the run and pass, highlighted by the duo of Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti with a combined 11.5 sacks. Last time Northwestern faced pro-caliber players on the line, Chiles was sacked four times. Furthermore, the Oregon defense has been excellent at getting off the field, ranking 11th in opponent third-down conversion rate (29.7%). For what it’s worth, Oregon is 29-3 under Dan Lanning at Autzen Stadium, so I have the Ducks turning around a seemingly lost season with a ranked win.
Northwestern vs Oregon prediction: Oregon Ducks -3.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number to -120.
