The Sacramento State Hornets host the North Dakota State Bison on the late slate on Saturday. Since joining the FBS and the Mountain West, the Bison have been on a tear. They smoked Jacksonville St in their home opener, shut out Fordham, and last week took down Air Force on the road in a wild game. This team comes in with a talented roster, and they are bigger and stronger than you would think. Sacramento St has joined the MAC this season, where they lost their season opener on the road to Eastern Michigan. They were also annihilated by Fresno St last week. I think the Bison win this game comfortably, but the better play in this game may be the game total under 50.5.
Sac State relies on a lot of gimmicky stuff on both sides of the ball. They take a lot of chances on defense, and their offense is very pass happy. There will be some fun nights in the MAC with their style of play, but they mostly play this way to mask a talent gap. There will be a talent gap here with North Dakota St. Although the Bison got in a shootout with Air Force last week that was up and down the field at a fast pace, that is not their typical style. They should tend more toward a slower, more physical style of play in most matchups. I think that is what will happen here, and I think the Hornets should struggle to score much.
