The SMU Mustangs will continue their four-game homestand this weekend when they welcome in the Boston College Eagles. After becoming the program's all-time leader in total offense, passing yards, completions, and touchdowns quarterback Kevin Jennings will look to keep the winning ways going on his team's home field. SMU is coming off a 34-24 win over Missouri State last week. Jennings threw for an impressive 439 yards and three touchdowns, but the Mustangs were unable to cover as 30-point favorites. SMU is very familiar with their opponent this weekend. SMU and Boston College will be playing each other for the fourth time since 2023. SMU has defeated the Eagles in two of the last three meetings.
For SMU, all eyes are on Kevin Jennings. Jennings leads the ACC in total offense, averaging an eye-popping 382 yards per game and proving week after week why he's one of the conference's most dangerous playmakers.
Don't expect Boston College to back down. The Eagles have their own dynamic quarterback under center in Mason McKenzie, who can make plays with both his arm and his legs. McKenzie ranks sixth in the ACC with 280.5 total yards per game, setting the stage for a quarterback showdown.
My main concern for SMU in this game is their turnovers. The Mustangs have a -5 turnover ratio this season, leaving opportunities on the table. Boston College's defense has been opportunistic in their first four games, forcing six interceptions this season, the most in the ACC. Boston College is looking to bounce back after a 21-14 loss to Virginia Tech last week. Offense was affected by the weather in that one, but the Eagles still managed a lead against James Franklin and Virginia Tech in the fourth quarter. On top of that, Boston College had numerous players on their defense miss the game with an illness. With players returning from illness, and the offense hopefully getting clear skies to operate, head coach Bill O'Brien and the Eagles should have all the tools to play a competitive game against SMU.
