What happens when two “over” teams get together on a Saturday night for a Big 12 clash? We end up with crazy point totals and a likely shootout. That’s what we are looking for on Saturday night when the West Virginia Mountaineers square off with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock. The Red Raiders got a big home victory over Arizona last week, and they should be favored in every game down the stretch. They are likely to be in the Big 12 championship game, despite a bit of a quarterback controversy. The Mountaineers are 2-3 in conference play and are looking to get to bowl eligibility. West Virginia will play its second straight game in Texas, and I am looking for a lot of offense in this one.
I love when point totals get this high. The books are telling us they expect a ton of points, and usually we go over the total anyway. West Virginia is 7-1 to the over this season, and the Red Raiders are 6-2 to the over. The Mountaineers are absolutely allergic to defense, and while they have guys listed at defensive positions on the two-deep, I am not convinced this team actually practices defense. Texas Tech made a quarterback change last week, and Tommy Castellanos provides a steady, veteran presence to the position. He should move the ball just fine. The one concern here is that the Red Raiders are elite against the run, but that usually doesn’t matter much to Rich Rodriguez and his unique rushing attack. Let’s take the over, and let’s hope the punters don’t even dress out this week.
West Virginia vs Texas Tech Prediction: Over 65.5 (-110) available at the time of publishing. Playable to 68.5.
