The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles will get ready to take the field for the second game of their doubleheader. This game doesn’t mean much for either club, and both teams will be looking to end the season on a high note while also turning their attention toward next season. They’ll send a pair of rookies to the mound, with CJ Van Eyk making his first start of the season for Toronto. Van Eyk enters with a 0-1 record and a 4.05 ERA. For the Orioles, Trey Gibson will get the nod, entering with a 1-3 record and a 7.36 ERA.
While Van Eyk hasn’t made a start yet this season, he has been able to limit the damage when called upon compared to Gibson, who is coming off a disastrous outing in which he allowed eight runs on seven hits over just 2.2 innings. Toronto should have the edge on the mound, but I don’t expect Van Eyk to go deep into this game. Fortunately for the Blue Jays, the extra day of rest should give their bullpen some breathing room. At the end of the day, I’m leaning towards the over in this matchup. Neither team has much to play for, and Gibson couldn’t figure anything out in his last start against the White Sox. With both teams looking to finish the season strong offensively, Iook for plenty of runs in the second game of this doubleheader, making the over my best bet of the day.
