The Chicago Cubs face the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon as these two teams wrap up a series. The Reds are mostly just running out the clock at this point, while the Cubs still have a lot to play for. Chicago is comfortably in the playoffs, but with the Padres winning nine of their last 10 and gaining ground seemingly every night, the Cubs will be in a race over the final week to try to get that series at Wrigley. I think we have to trust that motivation spot, even at a large price tag, for the Cubs to win.
The pitching matchup is uninspiring. David Peterson is expected to take the ball for the Cubbies, while Rhett Lowder will go for the Reds. These guys have been inconsistent at best lately, and at times, both have been awful. They faced each other a couple weeks ago in a game where both guys threw well enough though, and the Reds came away with the win. There isn’t a lot about this matchup that would have us leaning one way or another, so much as it is that the Cubs can’t afford any losses if they want to play the wild card round at home. I’ll take the Cubs to win.
Cubs vs Reds Prediction: Chicago Cubs ML (-160) available at the time of publishing. Playable to -170.
