If you are betting baseball on Monday, you only have three games to choose from, and the Minnesota Twins vs the San Francisco Giants may be the best among them to bet. Neither team has anything to play for, so it is hard to bank on effort here -- but the Twins are in the better situation as they make their last stop before returning home to finish the season. The Giants have managed to avoid the worst record in baseball (thanks, Rockies!), and they are wrapping up the season in the Bay from here. On Monday, I like the Twins to pick up the win.
Zebby Matthews is a bit of a lottery ticket on the mound, but he has certainly been more good than bad down the stretch. He blanked the Yankees in his last start, and four of his last six outings have been good ones. He faces a Giants lineup that is a shell of a major-league team, as the entire top half of this lineup is on the season-ending IL. On the other side is Blade Tidwell, a young arm trying to make a place for himself for next season. He has been okay, but the Twins are one of the better teams in the league against RHP -- so this spot sets up nicely for the bats. Targeting a pair of teams with little motivation may be foolish, but I’ll take Minnesota tonight.
