The Indiana Pacers have experienced an unusual start to the season, making them somewhat difficult to evaluate through three games. They escaped New Orleans with a narrow victory over a Pelicans team expected to finish near the bottom of the Western Conference, then struggled in an emotional home opener against Dallas before responding with an impressive 136-109 blowout victory over Brooklyn. Tyrese Haliburton looked much more comfortable in that latest performance, finishing with 24 points and 10 assists as Indiana's offense finally resembled the fast-paced, efficient unit many expected entering the season. While the loss to Dallas raised some concerns, it's understandable to chalk up part of that performance to the emotions surrounding the home opener. This still feels like a team that should consistently take care of business against struggling opponents while continuing to work its way back into the upper tier of the Eastern Conference.
Milwaukee, meanwhile, is searching for answers after an 0-3 start -- and the biggest issue has been its inability to get consistent stops. The Bucks have surrendered 128, 125 and 127 points through their first three games, with defensive breakdowns becoming a recurring theme regardless of the opponent. Head coach Taylor Jenkins has remained optimistic despite the winless start, but the results simply haven't followed -- and another difficult matchup awaits against one of the league's fastest offenses. Indiana thrives when Haliburton pushes the pace, creating transition opportunities and open three-pointers before opposing defenses can get set. That's a dangerous formula against a Milwaukee team that has struggled to defend in both the half court and transition. Unless the Bucks make a dramatic defensive turnaround overnight, the Pacers appear well positioned to dictate the tempo and capitalize on those weaknesses. Expect Indiana's offense to create enough quality looks throughout the night to pull away and hand Milwaukee its fourth consecutive loss.
