The Orlando Magic find themselves in a difficult scheduling spot as they return home on the second night of a back-to-back, but this still feels like a favorable opportunity to get back on track. Orlando has stumbled out of the gate this season and continues to adjust to life without Paolo Banchero, who remains sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Franz Wagner has done his best to shoulder the offensive load, but replacing Banchero's production has been no easy task, and the Magic are still searching for consistency on that end of the floor. Fatigue could certainly be a factor after Sunday's loss to Boston, yet Orlando has historically played well against Washington and should be motivated to avoid another slow start.
Washington has also experienced an inconsistent opening to the season despite sitting around .500. While the Wizards have shown flashes behind Anthony Davis and Trae Young, they've yet to prove they can consistently string together quality performances, especially on the road. Orlando's defense remains the foundation of this team, even with several key injuries, and this matchup profiles as one where the Magic can dictate the game with their physicality and half-court execution. It's far from an ideal scheduling spot, which keeps this from being a stronger play, but this is one of my early season system leans. Orlando should have enough defense and home court advantage to overcome the back-to-back and grind out a much-needed victory.
Wizards vs Magic prediction: Magic -2.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable to -3 (-110).
