The San Antonio Spurs enter the 2026-27 season with an enormous amount of hype surrounding them. They are the favorites to lift the Larry O'Brien Trophy with the Oklahoma City Thunder just behind them in championship futures markets. Even when the GM's were asked, the Spurs led the way in picks to win it all. The Spurs also knocked off OKC in a thrilling Western Conference Finals last season that went the distance before ultimately falling to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. All of this inherently informs the price here.

The addition of Tobias Harris only adds to the hoop-la in San Antonio. The Spurs led by Wemby himself are a young bunch and this seasoned veteran acquisition has gained alot of hype because it is touted as what could be the missing ingredient that help get Wembanyama, Fox, Castle, Harper, and Vassell over the hump. Our task here however is to focus on this very game and the hyperbole innately attracts action on the Spurs. Oklahoma City's offseason departures have seemingly widened the perceived gap between these two Western Conference heavyweights. The Thunder re-shaped their roster and in a series of financially motivated moves, shipped off Lu Dort along with Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins which undoubtedly gives things a different appearance. Dort was a defensive stalwart and key starter for the Thunder while Wiggins and Joe were bench assets that played over 20 minutes per night. However, the rest of the Thunder's core is still very much together and still led by a player that deserves just as much as acclaim as Wemby: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Ultimately, what I trying to say to you here is that the Thunder shouldn't be overlooked here because of the San Antonio fever. The Spurs are getting alot of affection and attention, but the Thunder are still a championship-caliber outfit taking back a plus price in a game that they can win. That dictates the play in itself. There is also something to be said about the enormous expectations being placed on San Antonio before a single meaningful basketball game has been played. I am taking Oklahoma City to shake things up on opening night.
