2023 World Baseball Classic best bets for Monday, March 13: Canada keeps scoring

Team Canada infielder Freddie Freeman (5) celebrates with first base coach Larry Walker (33) after a single to first against Team Great Britain during the third inning at Chase Field.

Pool play is starting to heat up in the World Baseball Classic as the games have been intense and exciting to watch. There are 5 games on Monday that began in the early hours of the day with Korea defeating China 22-2, which ended by mercy rule in the 5th inning. Following that game, the Dominican Republic will try to right the ship against Nicaragua, Colombia battles the winless Great Britain, Israel takes on Puerto Rico, and Canada will face the United States in the most anticipated game of the day. I’ve focused on that game for my best bet of the day, so without further ago, here is my World Baseball Classic best bet for Monday’s games.

Canada vs United States Predictions World Baseball Classic 2023: Over 11.5 (-110)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing

The United States has a 1-1 record in Pool C and has not looked like the team everyone expected them to be. They beat a weak Great Britain team 6-2 in their first game, and the United States looked far from dominant considering they were favored by 7 to 8 runs. Mexico proceeded to make matters worse as they smashed the United States’ pitching and won yesterday’s matchup easily by a score of 11-5. My pre-tournament expectation has come true as the United States’ pitching has been their Achilles heel. While Great Britain couldn’t capitalize on it, Mexico did, and I expect the Canadians to do the same.

Canada is 1-0 in pool play and just demolished Great Britain 18-8 in 5 innings. The Canadians were 17-34 (.500) at the plate and 9-for-24 with runners in scoring position. They proved that their lineup can beat poor pitching, and that is bad news for the United States. The Americans have announced they will start Lance Lynn on Monday night, who had a subpar 2022 season for the Chicago White Sox. I expect Lynn to get knocked around and not make it into the 4th inning since Mark DeRosa will try to keep Lynn under 50 pitches. That opens the door for Canada to score against the United States bullpen, which has struggled so far.

The United States’ lineup was expected to go toe-to-toe with the Dominican Republic’s for the best in the WBC, but that hasn’t been the case. They’ve scored only 11 runs on 17 hits through the first 2 games, and while that may sound like a lot for a normal game, this isn’t a normal lineup. The United States should be scoring at least 6 runs per game against the pitching in Pool C. If there is a time for their lineup to wake up, it’s tonight. Canada will start Mitch Bratt, a 19-year-old who spent the 2022 season in Single-A. This will be the best lineup that Bratt will face in his lifetime, so I expect the United States to score early and often against Bratt before scoring a few more against the Canadian bullpen. This game could see double-digit runs quickly.
