Best NBA player prop bets at Caesars Sportsbook today, 3/5: Chris Paul runs the offense

Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul (3) in the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

If you’re interested in watching basketball all day, today’s slate is designed just for you. The Suns and Mavericks begin the day with a 1:00 pm ET tip-off as Kyrie and KD battle for the first time since being teammates on the Nets and basketball continues throughout the afternoon and evening. I’ve taken a look at the Caesars Sportsbook player prop market and I found 2 best bets for today. Also be sure to check out our NBA picks for tonight.

Chris Paul over 9.5 assists (+108)

Adding an elite scorer to the team has been very beneficial to Chris Paul’s assist numbers. The veteran has recorded at least 10 assists in both games that Durant has played in compared to just 4 games in February. In Phoenix’s 2 games with Paul, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton in the starting lineup, the Suns looked excellent on offense. It starts with Paul, who can drive in and see if Ayton has a mismatch or good positioning on the block, and if he does, that’s 2 quick points for the big man. But if he’s covered, Paul can look to kick it out to Durant or Booker on the perimeter.

The amount of scoring options that Paul has around him makes this bet have value. It’s also clear that Paul has understood his role and that his scoring numbers are going to go down. After averaging nearly 12 points per game in February, Paul has scored just 13 points total in the 2 games with Durant. He is looking to pass more and get Durant involved quickly, so I’ll back the trend of double-digit assists for Paul with Durant in the rotation.

Jayson Tatum over 28.5 points (-114)

Available at Caesars Sportsbook at time of publishing

This is the definition of a revenge spot. The Celtics faced the Knicks 6 days ago at Madison Square Garden and came up short, losing by 15 points. However, Jaylen Brown was absent, and Jayson Tatum was ejected halfway through the 4th quarter. That was Tatum’s first career ejection, and now just a few days later, he gets to face the Knicks on his home court. The ejection was built up from a bad shooting night and several missed calls that Tatum let the refs know about, but bad shooting nights on the road aren’t uncommon for the Celtics superstar. He shoots significantly better in Boston as his field-goal percentage is over 47% and he’s averaging 31.5 at the Garden this season.

Also, consider that the Celtics just blew a 28-point lead to the Nets and ended up losing by 10 on Friday. It was by far their worst game of the season, and I’m guessing Joe Mazzulla ripped into them to set a fire under them. With all the outside factors considered, this is a game in which Tatum will run the show. I expect 30 points at a minimum for Tatum today.
