I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Friday provides a great night of NHL action before heading into a huge Saturday. We have a Metro Division rivalry in New York and the world’s best skater in Edmonton trying to fire shots past last year’s best goaltender in the Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin. While those will be exciting to watch, they don’t provide the best value in terms of player props. Instead, we’ve found 2 great sports with a skater getting revenge on his former team and picking on the league’s worst defensive squad. After a +165 player prop winner yesterday, let’s continue our momentum today. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Alex DeBrincat over 2.5 shots on goal (-160)

Let’s get started with that skater out for blood against the team that traded him last summer. The Chicago Blackhawks traded DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators for multiple picks, including the 7th overall pick in 2022. He was the partner in crime to future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Kane, and the ‘Hawks have never looked worse. Chicago is having a historically bad season, and now DeBrincat gets to have his revenge on home ice. If you have the option of taking over 3.5 at plus-money odds, we’d also suggest that.

We haven’t been targeting shots on goal props as much this season due to the stat-keeping being inconsistent, but the left-winger should leave no room for debate. There’s no doubt he’s going to want to put it on his former team, which means plenty of shots on goal. He’s 2nd on the team to Brady Tkachuk, but they play the same position, so are therefore on different lines. That means there should not be concern regarding his chances being taken away, and Chicago has been a great team for volume shooters. They’re allowing the 7th-most shots per game and the 2nd-most on the road. DeBrincat has had at least 4 shots in 3 of his last 5 and 6 of his last 11 games. He should be even more eager to do so against his old team.

Anze Kopitar over 0.5 assists (+115)

We’re transitioning to another skater that has been a staple to his team’s success, but does not look to ever be traded. Kopitar is the captain of the Los Angeles Kings, who have been on a heater recently. Their last 2 games saw them shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-0 and take down a high-powered Buffalo Sabres team 5-2. While they’ll have to leave LA for this game, they won’t be going far. The Kings will be traveling up the road to Anaheim to take on the Ducks.

That’s great news for all LA skaters, such as Kevin Fiala if you want to pay that heavier price, as the Ducks are the only team worse than Chicago defensively. We’re expecting Kopitar to be on the giving end of plenty of goals by passing to shooters like Fiala and Adrian Kempe. That’s exactly what the captain has been known to do when facing the Ducks. Kopitar has recorded at least 1 assist in each of his last 5 games against Anaheim, including 2 assists in 2 of the matchups. In his long career, he has 81 points in 84 games against them. Of his 46 points this season, 30 have been assists, and we anticipate another helper tonight.
