The Minnesota Wild will be continuing their road trip through the Metropolitan Division as they stop in the big apple to take on the New York Rangers. The Rangers will have another chance to do something they have yet to do this season, score a goal on home ice. They seem to have found their offensive game in their last outing as they potted four goals against the Montreal Canadiens. Most importantly, superstar forward Artemi Panarin got things going as he factored in on all four goals. If Panarin can keep things going, and netminder Igor Shesterkin keeps up his stellar play, this team will be in a good shape moving forward. One strong suit of their game to begin the year has been their penalty kill; it is operating at 85.7%. This will be important as they will look to shut down the leagues best powerplay that the Wild have. I think the Rangers will find their game on home ice and change the narrative.

The Wild are riding a three-game losing streak, and during these three games they have struggled to produce offense. They scored only four goals during the three-game losing streak. It won’t get easier going up against Vezina candidate Shesterkin. Look for the Rangers to get this done on home ice. I will be taking them on the money line.

The Philadelphia Flyers are set to host the Seattle Kraken in a Monday night showdown at Xfinity Mobile Arena. From a situational standpoint, the Kraken are in a tough spot here. Seattle played its first 2 games of the new season at home, winning both. The Kraken have since embarked on an east coast road trip, with Monday’s matchup in Philadelphia being the 4th of a 6-game trip. The road trip has been a mixed bag so far, as Seattle is 1-0-2 and coming off a 4-3 overtime win over Toronto on Saturday. Not only are the Kraken in the middle of a long road trip on the opposite side of the country, but they have now played 4 consecutive games past regulation time.

On the other side, this will be the 4th and final game in Philadelphia’s home stand. Philly is 2-1-0 so far on the home stand, with wins over the Panthers and Wild with a loss to the Jets. Neither of these teams have been lighting the lamp a ton this season, as the Kraken have 16 total goals and the Flyers have 13, ranking 20th and 28th in the league respectively. In what could be a more physical, grind-it-out game, the edge goes to the home team while fading the team on the extended road trip who has played 4 straight games past regulation. The Buffalo Sabres take their talents to Montreal to face the Canadiens for the first time this season. Arter a brutal start to the year, the Sabres have rebounded, winning two games in a row and scoring 11 total goals. Now, don’t let that fool you– they are still a below average team. Their special teams have been good, but their offensive depth isn’t there and their goaltending isn’t good. 

For the Canaidens, you can tell that their offense is improve, but their volume of shots is still low. They also have a goalie controversy starting. Samuel Montembault is the starter, but his early numbers are horrific. He was below-average against the Rangers, but despite Jakub Dobes sporting a 2-0-0 record with a .940 SV%, he may not get the start tonight. The Habs penality kill has also been underwhelming, operating at just 72%. It’s hard to trust the Sabres to win hockey games, but we can trust this game to have a lot of scoring chances on either side, so we’ll take the Over and hope for a high-scoring affair.

This all-Canadian matchup is part of a five-game slate and will be the first of three matchups within the next month. These teams have opposite records so far, as the Jets have impressed at 4-1-0, while the Flames are struggling at 1-5-0. How will this one play out? Winnipeg is a very deep team that has been built for sustained success for years now. It starts in net with arguably the NHL’s best goaltender in Connor Hellebuyck, and they have been getting elite contributions from their top guys, as Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor have combined for 9 goals and 8 assists in just five games. The Jets look extremely determined to make a long run this season. The Flames are in the beginning stages of a rebuild, as their depth and star talent is low. The last of five Monday games, these team play in what should be the best game of the night. Combined, these two powerhouses have combined for a 9-0-2 record. At 5-0-0, Carolina has obviously been perfect. While I think they have a great chance to win, this could be their first loss of the season. They are playing in their fourth-straight road game, fourth of six, and have not had a home game since October 11th. This could affect their energy level and comfort, especially in a building as tough as Vegas’. Proof of fatigue could be seen from their last game when a 3-0 lead was blown in an eventual 4-3 overtime win. If it were an opponent other than Vegas, I would like Carolina’s chances, but Vegas has won three-straight games in regulation while scoring at will (5.33 goals per game). Vibes are high in Vegas’ third-straight home game, and overall I also think they have a stronger offensive build that should be able to penetrate an impressive Hurricanes team.
