I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. Saturdays are a great day in the NHL, and we’ve got 12 games going on today. We even have afternoon hockey. With so many teams in action, that also means even more individual skaters. If you’d rather not have to rely on a team to cover a puck line or pull off an upset, then the player prop market is for you. We’ve targeted the best matchups on today’s slate to boost your bankroll heading into NFL Sunday. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite player props.

Elias Lindholm over 0.5 points (-160)

The Calgary Flames look a bit different from last season, but they are off to just as hot of a start. They’re battling the Vegas Golden Knights atop the Pacific Division with a 5-1-0 record. They’ve been holding off the Edmonton Oilers, who they face tonight. That should provide a great matchup for Elias Lindholm. The Flames center spent last season skating alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk. Lindholm was often the one who flew under the radar, but is great in his own right.

He had 82 points in 82 games, and his plus-minus was the 2nd-best in the NHL. In other words, good things happen when he’s on the ice. Lindholm has now taken over the leadership role of this team with Gaudreau and Tkachuk having left town. However, he now gets to skate alongside Jonathan Huberdeau, whose 115 points was the 2nd-most in the league last year. That means more opportunities for Lindholm, who feasted on the Oilers last year. He recorded a point in all 4 games against them, including 2 in the last meeting of the season. Edmonton is allowing the 10th-most goals per game this season, so I love this play for tonight’s divisional matchup.

Sebastian Aho over 2.5 shots on goal (-110)

The Carolina Hurricanes were embarrassed by the New York Islanders last night, but they get to face the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. Although the Flyers have overperformed thus far, not much is expected from Philly this season. Goaltender Carter Hart has looked much better in net, but we don’t need to worry about that with this prop. After allowing the 4th-most shots per game last season, the Flyers are still allowing the 5th-most shots per game this year.

That’s great news for the Hurricanes, who had no problem against Philly last season. They’ve defeated them in each of the last 3 meetings, and Sebastian Aho was a key piece in all 4 games against them. Not only did he have 4 points against the Flyers, he also recorded 16 shots across those 4 games. The best of which was a game with 7 shots on goal, which was also in Philly. Andrei Svechnikov was putting on most of the pressure last night, but clearly that didn’t pay off. Expect Aho to take the reins tonight to get Carolina back on track.
