I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. We just went 2-0 the last 2 nights, and are on a 5-1 run the last 3 nights. It’s now the beginning of a new week, so let’s keep the profits rolling. This will mark back-to-back nights with 6 NHL games before we get a loaded 12-game slate tomorrow night. Even still, that’s plenty of opportunities to find value. If you aren’t loving many of the sides or totals, we have you covered. We’ve analyzed each matchup on the board and come up with the best 2 spots to target in terms of player props. Along with our player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action.

Matt Duchene over 0.5 assists (+115)

Let’s get our plays started with the Nashville Predators facing off against the St. Louis Blues, a familiar Central Division opponent. They’ve met once already this season, with the Preds smashing the Blues by a final of 6-2. That was just a stepping stone en route to St. Louis now allowing the 3rd-most goals per game. We expect that trend to continue with the Blues having just played yesterday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. Being in St. Louis has not helped the Blues either. They’re allowing 3.85 goals per game at home, the 4th-most in the NHL.

One of the primary reasons the Preds were able to handle the Blues with ease already this season was the play of Matt Duchene. He recorded 3 points in that game alone and has always enjoyed facing St. Louis. In 4 meetings last season, he racked up 8 total points. That includes another 3-point game that was also on the road. He’s also been skating alongside Filip Forsberg, Nashville’s leading point-scorer. That’s also without mentioning defenseman Roman Josi, who is virtually always on the ice. No matter who he links up with throughout the game, we expect Duchene to get in the box score with at least a point tonight.

Tim Stutzle over 0.5 assists (-160)

Our second play requires something to note before we fully dive in. This Ottawa Senators skater may be listed and spelled with the last name “Stuetzle” depending on the sportsbook. No matter the spelling or even pronunciation, we expect the winger to have a big game tonight. Notice we didn’t state left or right-winger, as he’s willing to play either side along with Brady Tkachuk. That’s perfect news for this play, as Tkachuk is an elite shot-taker, goal-scorer and overall point-recorder. Along with that duo is Claude Giroux to complete an incredible line. Those 3 should feast with their ideal matchup tonight.

The Senators are hosting the Anaheim Ducks, who are always a prime target for our player props. One of several reasons for that is the fact that they are allowing the most goals per game in the NHL. Furthermore, they are by far the worst in terms of goaltending on the road. They’re allowing 4.5 goals per game away from Anaheim, and the Sens will be riding high after their recent defeat of the Predators. Stutzle surprisingly didn’t record a point in that game, but he still has 27 through 27 games this season. One of which came against the Ducks just 2 weeks ago. Look for him to link up with Tkachuk for a goal, but our official play is on Stutzle.
