The 2022 college football season is finally on the horizon. The battle for a spot in the College Football Playoff begins on August 27 and won’t slow down until December. One of the most popular futures markets in this sport is determining who will win the Heisman Trophy. Last season, this award went to Alabama quarterback Bryce Young en route to an SEC Championship for the Crimson Tide.

Enter Caleb Williams. The new USC quarterback is one of the most exciting in the nation, and along with it comes a decent chance to win the Heisman Trophy. Let’s take a look at Williams’ odds, as well as our prediction for his Heisman prospects.

What are Caleb Williams’ Heisman Trophy odds?

Caleb Williams’ odds to win the Heisman Trophy have gone through a ton of movement this offseason. After starting out as high as 15/1, Williams now sits at 7/1 to win the award at DraftKings Sportsbook, behind only CJ Stroud at 2/1 and Bryce Young at 3/1. Following flashes of brilliance at Oklahoma in 2021, the betting public is bullish on Williams’ chances to have success with Lincoln Riley in his first season in the Pac-12. While Williams should put up numbers out west, that doesn’t mean he’ll take home the Heisman Trophy.

Will Caleb Williams win the Heisman?

Williams is a very difficult player to handicap at this moment. Yes, he shone brightly in a couple of games last season for Oklahoma, and his relationship with Riley should only grow stronger in year 2. However, USC has thrown its offense together in the offseason so it’s fair to expect a bit of an adjustment period. Furthermore, Williams has shown a propensity to turn the ball over in his short stint as a starting quarterback in 2021.

With all of the talent around him at the skill positions, it’s certainly plausible that the dual-threat QB takes a leap forward this fall. At the same time, I could certainly see Williams struggle against the best of the conference in Utah and Oregon. I’m expecting a strong season — but not an invite to New York in December.
