NBA Same Game Parlay pick: Boston Celtics ML over Cleveland Cavaliers (-108)
Everything has changed for the Boston Celtics with the return of Jayson Tatum. I don’t think we’ve ever had a situation in NBA history where a 2nd seed gets an all-NBA type player inserted into their line-up after missing the first 60 or so games. Tatum showed very little signs of rust in the win over Dallas. After getting the early jitters out the way, he finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists in just 27 minutes. Sunday sees Boston take on another formidable opponent in the Eastern Conference the Cleveland Cavaliers. Having won both meetings earlier in the season, I think the Celtics are the frontrunners, even if the game is being held in Cleveland. Of the last 9 meetings they’ve only lost 2 to the Cavaliers, plus the Celtics have also shown resilience in road games lately — going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 overall.
Meanwhile, the Cavs have been without Donovan Mitchell for the past week or so, and his status is still up in the air before this game. Without him, it would be a massive handicap against an elite defense like the one the Celtics have. I’m not going to say they’ll have issues scoring the ball, after all they do have James Harden at the point. However, one area I see them struggling with is the three-point defense. Cleveland is notorious for not being able to contain opponents around the perimeter — 28th in opponent three-point percentage — with teams making 37% of shots against them. That’s far too high going into a game against a team like the Celtics. Boston is favored by just a point, which could indicate a close game here, but even if that’s the case, I’d still give them the edge over the Cavaliers — who have split their last 4 games.
NBA Same Game Parlay pick: Jaylen Brown Over 6.5 rebounds (+100)
One would assume Brown’s numbers will go down with Jayson Tatum returning, but that was not the case in Friday’s win over Dallas. Brown cleared this line for the 7th consecutive game, as we are seeing a different mindset from Boston’s best player this season since the All-Star Break. His rebounds have gone up to 9.6 in the 7 games since the break, and now with Nikola Vucevic out with an injury, we can expect Brown to pick up additional slack on the defensive end in his absence. The MVP won’t mind doing that. In fact, I think he will welcome it with open arms, as he and his teammates look to integrate Tatum on the offensive end. Cleveland ranks 10th in rebounds allowed to opposing SFs this season, and the last time these two met, Brown grabbed 12 boards. Finally, h’s averaging 6.5 rebounds a game in the last 10 meetings. It would be foolish to miss out on these odds on a prop that has such a high hit rate of late.
NBA Same Game Parlay pick: James Harden 2+ made threes (-290)
With Mitchell’s status being up in the air here, there’s a very big possibility that the ball will spend a lot more time in James Harden’s hands than planned. The former Clippers star has been shooting the lights out from three-point land over the past 8 games, knocking down almost 43% of his attempts. He’s made a pair of threes in 6 consecutive games, and only once since the big trade from LA has he failed to clear this line. Boston’s defense around the perimeter has been stagnant at times lately, as their last 3 outings have seen opponents shoot 38.3% from downtown — which is an increase of 2.2% compared to their season average. For context, the league-worst Brooklyn Nets allow 38% of threes to go in this season. All in all, I’m expecting Harden to have a healthy scoring game here. He’s averaging 2.1 threes made per game in 10 meetings with the Cs, and not too long ago, he drained 5 of them against Boston as a member of the Clippers.
