The second game on the NFL’s Christmas slate pits the Detroit Lions against the Minnesota Vikings. It is a must-win situation for the Lions, who – if they want to steal the NFC’s last wild-card spot – have to go 2-0 over the final 2 weeks and need the Packers to go 0-2. The Vikings will be eager to play a spoiler role at the expense of their division rivals.

Here are my best TD scorer bets for Thursday afternoon, and also be sure to check out our full Lions vs Vikings predictions.

Jordan Addison, WR, MIN (+275 at Bet365)

Although the Vikings do not exactly pose a significant aerial threat in 2025, this is a favorable matchup for their passing game against the Lions. Detroit ranks #25 in the league against the pass and has surrendered 29 touchdowns through the air – fourth most in the NFL. Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson will also be factors in the red zone, but Jefferson has scored just 2 TDs and Hockenson is going up against a secondary that has been solid at defending tight ends. Otherwise, though, the Lions’ secondary is bad. Top cornerback D.J. Reed has been especially disappointing of late, so there is no reason to think that he will be able to handle Jefferson 1-on-1. Safety help will be required, which should open things up for Addison. The former USC standout has 3 touchdowns this season and he has gained more than 60 yards in 2 of the last 3 games. I would be no surprise if he delivers a Christmas TD.

David Montgomery, RB, DET (+140 at DraftKings)

The value is on the lesser half of the Sonic and Knuckles duo, as Jahmyr Gibbs at close to -200 at most sportsbooks just doesn’t offer enough of a payout. Getting Montgomery well into plus money is the way to go. The Iowa State product has scored 8 touchdowns this season, including 3 in the past 4 games. Montgomery’s streak of a TD in 3 straight contests ended last weekend, so he should get back on track in this spot. It’s a favorable one against the Vikings, who have allowed almost as many rushing TDs (13) as passing (14) through 16 weeks. They are #24 in the NFL in rushing defense. Look for Montgomery to capitalize on a nice opportunity.
