Stop me if you’ve heard this one before; the Kansas Jayhawks won the Big 12 regular-season championship. Kansas is once again one of the best teams in the nation and has a decent chance to repeat as NCAA champions for the first time since Florida in 2006-07. The Jayhawks have played very well for most of the season and have the coaching and star power to take home the title.

Let’s take a look at the March Madness 2023 outlook for Kansas, but make sure you also check out our March Madness picks for every game throughout the NCAA tournament.

Kansas Basketball March Madness Odds

After winning the Big 12 regular-season title and losing to Texas in the Big 12 tournament title game, Kansas checks in as one of the favorites to win the national title for the second consecutive season. The Jayhawks are +1000 at FanDuel Sportsbook to cut down the nets, and Kansas is +220 to make the Final Four in Houston, Texas.

Kansas Basketball March Madness Seeding

Much like most seasons under Bill Self, Kansas is once again a #1 seed in the 2023 NCAA tournament. Kansas will be in the Midwest region and should have favorable fan support there, starting in Des Moines, Iowa for the first two rounds. Kansas will play Howard in the opening round before a potential matchup against either Arkansas or Illinois in the Round of 32.

Kansas Basketball ATS Record and Key Stats

Kansas was rated highly by most of the predictive metrics this season, including at KenPom, where the Jayhawks were listed as 7th overall. Self’s team played the hardest strength of schedule in the country and ranked 7th in defensive efficiency at KenPom. The Jayhawks averaged 75 points per game in the regular season, and finished 16-18 against the spread on the season. However, Kansas did have a better ATS record on the road, so that may come into play during the tournament.

Kansas Basketball Star Players for March Madness

The Jayhawks have a clear star player in Jalen Wilson. Wilson was the Big 12 player of the year and had a terrific season, averaging over 20 points and 8 rebounds per game. He’ll be joined by sharpshooter Gradey Dick, Dajuan Harris, Kevin McCullar and KJ Adams.

Kansas Basketball March Madness Prospects & Prediction

The Jayhawks have played one of the country’s toughest schedules, which has prepared them for an extended March Madness run. However, it’s not the easiest path in the world for Kansas to get back to the Final Four in Houston. A potential Round of 32 matchup against Arkansas or Illinois won’t be a walkover, and the same goes for potential Sweet 16 opponents in UConn or St. Mary’s. Ultimately, I see Kansas as a Sweet 16 team, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Self and the Jayhawks got to Houston.
