The Dodgers’ bats cooled off on Wednesday, but they had previously been hot throughout the playoffs. Los Angeles scored 18 runs in 2 games against Cincinnati in the Wild Card Series before crossing the plate 9 times in the first 2 contests against Philadelphia. It should be able to put up more than a few runs on the board today, perhaps even in the first inning at the expense of Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez.

The Dodgers just saw Sanchez in the series opener, and familiarity generally favors the hitters rather than the pitcher. Sanchez allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in that contest. Teoscar Hernandez, the #3 hitter in L.A.’s lineup, is 5-for-15 lifetime against the southpaw with 2 home runs and 2 doubles. It –should also be noted that the Dodgers were 6th-best in MLB in scoring first-inning runs during the regular season, doing so 32.3 percent of the time.

Philadelphia was just as good in that same department, crossing the plate in the opening frame in 32.4 percent of its games (tied for 3rd league-wide). The Phillies were stymied in the first 2 contests at home, but their lineup woke up to produce 8 runs in Game 3. That should give them plenty of confidence heading into today’s matchup with Tyler Glasnow. Bryce Harper, Philly’s #3 batter, is 4-for-2 all-time against Glasnow with a triple and a double. The right-hander faced Philadelphia once in the regular season, surrendering 5 earned runs in just 2.0 innings.
