The 2025 MLB season keeps rolling along, and Friday features a full 15-game slate for us to enjoy. I’m 20-9 on my MLB best bets and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is 51-32-4 in these MLB best bets this season. Let’s keep it going as we get into today’s top picks on Friday, May 30. You can also find out our experts’ MLB picks for EVERY game today.

MLB best bet: New York Mets -1.5 over Colorado Rockies (-140)

Odds available at Caesars Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -150.

For my first MLB best bet on Friday’s slate, I’m going with the Mets on the run line against the lowly Colorado Rockies. This is a rare instance where I don’t mind eating the juice and laying the big number against a Colorado team that is clearly the worst unit in baseball, and potentially by some distance. Fading the Rockies has proven to be a profitable endeavor all season long, and the Mets should be in a good position to pick up another win by margin at home. The Rockies’ pitching staff and bullpen is ranked dead last in ERA (5.55) while being very susceptible to allowing the long ball, so the meat of the Mets’ offense should get a nice shot in the arm in this matchup. It certainly helps matters that Colorado is just 3-25 away from Coors Field, which aids our Mets handicap.

David Peterson is set to take the mound for the Mets, and he currently holds a 2.79 ERA, while also allowing just 3 earned runs over his last 13.2 innings pitched. Those recent outings came against the Yankees and Dodgers, so it goes without saying that this Rockies lineup is a massive step down in class from those elite units. With that in mind, we can expect Peterson to cruise in this one, especially at home. Ultimately, New York has every reason to lead this game by multiple runs going into the 9th inning, so let’s back the much better team on the run line on Friday.

MLB best bet: San Diego Padres -1.5 over Pittsburgh Pirates (+120)

Odds available at bet365 at time of publishing. Playable to +105.

For my second MLB best bet on Friday, we’re heading to San Diego for a matchup between a couple of teams that have a massive gulf in quality between them. While Mitch Keller has been solid for Pittsburgh to this point, the right-hander surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits against the Padres earlier this season, and we could see a similar result out west in this one. He certainly shouldn’t get much run support from the Pirates lineup, which has consistently been one of the worst units in baseball this season.

On the other side, San Diego is opting to go with Nick Pivetta, who is in the midst of an excellent season, having only surrendered 39 hits through 56.1 innings pitched. The Padres right-hander comes into this game having allowed 2 runs over his last 12 innings pitched and he also holds a 1.44 ERA at home, while giving up less than 1 hit every 2 innings. These metrics are a big part of the reason that the Padres are 7-3 with Pivetta on the mound this season, and I’ll be backing San Diego on the run line in Friday’s contest.
