The 2025 MLB season keeps rolling along, and Sunday features a full slate of action for us to enjoy. I’m 47-30 on my MLB best bets this year and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is 98-65-6 in this article series this season, including being on a 20-7 run right now. Let’s keep it going as we get into today’s top picks on Sunday, July 13. You can also find out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.
MLB best bet: Tampa Bay Rays vs Boston Red Sox Under 9 (-115)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -120.
For my first MLB best bet for today, we’ll focus on an AL East matchup between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox. Winners of 9 straight and 11 of their last 12, the Red Sox should be in a solid position to keep the good times rolling on Sunday, especially with Brayan Bello on the mound. Bello’s been dealing of late, allowing 8 earned runs over his lat 5 outings, including a complete game effort against the Rockies earlier this week. He should see plenty of success at home against a suddenly struggling Rays lineup. On the other side, Boston’s offense has been timely this series, but the Red Sox bats have mostly been contained to this point. In steps Ryan Pepiot (3.32 ERA), who has been an anchor in the Tampa Bay rotation all season long, and for good reason. Ultimately, I’ll ride with the under at Fenway Park.
MLB best bet: Philadelphia Phillies ML over San Diego Padres (-130)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -140.
Our 2nd MLB best bet today takes us to San Diego, where the Padres are hosting the Philadelphia Phillies in a pretty important series finale for the visitors. After all, the Phillies have to be feeling pretty desperate following a pair of demoralizing defeats at the hands of San Diego on Friday and Saturday. With that in mind, we can expect Philadelphia’s bats to come out with a renewed sense of intensity at the plate against Nick Pivetta (3.90 xERA, bottom 10% in barrel rate), and set the tone with some early run support for Cristopher Sanchez (2.59 ERA, .336 xSLG). The Phillies left-hander has quickly become one of the game’s top pitchers, and he also happens to boast great splits against the likes of Manny Machado, Luis Arraez and Jackson Merrill, among others. All things considered, I’ll take the Phillies to salvage this series with a victory.
