The 2nd half of the 2025 MLB season continues rolling along, and Wednesday features a 14-game slate of action for us to enjoy. I’m 66-49 on my MLB best bets this year and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is currently on a 128-100-8 run! Let’s keep it going as we get into today’s top MLB predictions on Wednesday, August 20. You can also find out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.

MLB best bet: San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants Over 8 (-108)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -125.

My first MLB best bet today takes us to San Diego, where the Padres will host the Giants in this NL West clash. This pitching matchup is one that immediately points me in the direction of the Over, as San Diego is running out JP Sears (5.12 ERA, bottom 20% whiff rate, bottom 5% ground-ball rate), who surrendered 10 hits and 5 runs in his first outing since being traded from the Athletics at the deadline. That’s not encouraging for his prospects on this staff, and Giants starter Logan Roupp (4.01 xERA, .253 xBA) has also had his struggles of late, having just allowed 5 runs in only 3 innings of work against the Rays last week. Even with the dominance of the Padres’ bullpen, the question marks on the mound for both teams lead me toward a higher-scoring affair.

MLB best bet: Los Angeles Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies Over 11.5 (-112)

Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -120.

For my 2nd MLB best bet for today, we’ll focus on this NL West showdown between the Rockies and Dodgers. Los Angeles is an absolutely massive favorite in this game, and rightly so. However, I’ll be targeting the total instead of a side in this one, as both offenses should see success in Coors Field. The Dodgers are facing Tanner Gordon, who has allowed a whopping 27 runs over his past 4 outings and carries a 7.98 ERA on the season. It certainly doesn’t help matters that this is the best lineup he’ll have faced in this recent stretch of terrible form.

As for Los Angeles, the visitors will send out Shohei Ohtani to the mound, but he’s typically not been one to pitch deep into games since his return to pitching. The Dodger bullpen is anything but consistent of late, so they could surrender a few runs of their own as well.
