The 2025 MLB season keeps rolling along, and Wednesday features a full slate of action for us to enjoy. I’m 45-29 on my MLB best bets this year and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is 93-63-6 in this article series this season, including being on a 15-5 run right now. Let’s keep it going as we get into today’s top picks on Wednesday, July 9. You can also find out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.
MLB best bet: New York Mets F5 team total Over 2.5 (-120)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -130.
For my first MLB best bet for today, we’ll focus on a matchup between the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles. The Mets had been struggling mightily in recent weeks, but it appears that New York turned a corner following a Subway Series victory against the Yankees over the weekend. After a disappointing stretch of games, the Mets’ offense has put up 29 runs over their last 4 games, and they’ll have a good chance to stay hot against Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano on Wednesday.
Teams facing Sugano have tallied at least 3 runs in the first 5 innings of his last 5 outings, as his poor expected metrics (5.77 xERA, .301 xBA, bottom 3% strikeout rate) appear to be catching up with him. Let’s back this deep and experienced Mets lineup to keep that trend going in Baltimore.

MLB best bet: Colorado Rockies vs Boston Red Sox Over 9 (-110)
Odds available at Caesars Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -120.
Our 2nd MLB best bet today takes us to Boston, where the Red Sox will look to complete the series sweep against the lowly Colorado Rockies. Winners of 5 straight, Boston has found itself in a groove at the plate, where the Red Sox have tallied 46 runs over those last 5 games. The good times should keep on rolling against Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela, who holds some of the worst advanced metrics in all of baseball (6.59 xERA, .331 xBA, bottom 1% strikeout rate) and has even struggled mightily away from the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field.
On the other side, Boston is countering with Lucas Giolito, a pitcher whose expected metrics (4.78 xERA, .287 xBA) suggest that he’s due for some significant regression in his upcoming starts. Let’s back the Over at Fenway Park.
