The 2nd half of the 2025 MLB season continues rolling along, and Wednesday features a full slate of action for us to enjoy. I’m 76-52-1 on my MLB best bets this year and the Pickswise MLB handicapping team as a whole is currently on a 19-6 run! Let’s keep it going as we get into today’s top MLB predictions on Wednesday, September 3. You can also find out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.
MLB best bet: LA Dodgers vs Pittsburgh Pirates F5 under 4.5 (-135)
Odds available at BetRivers Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -145.
For my first MLB best bet today, we’ll focus on this National League matchup between the Dodgers and Pirates. Los Angeles’ struggles against seemingly inferior competition have been well documented lately, and that continued into a loss on Tuesday against a Pirates team that has quietly won 7 of their last 10 games. Los Angeles should start on the right foot in this game with Shohei Ohtani on the mound, and the two-way superstar is coming off his best start in a Dodger uniform, posting 9 strikeouts while allowing just 2 hits over 5 innings of work. The hosts are countering with Braxton Ashcraft (2.58 ERA, top 2% barrel rate), and the rookie has been excellent in his last 6 weeks of work. Let’s back a strong start for both pitchers on Wednesday.
MLB best bet: New York Mets ML over Detroit Tigers (-115)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to -125.
For my 2nd MLB best bet on Wednesday, let’s roll with the Mets on the money line. New York has taken the first couple of games in this series, and the Mets are in a good shape to pick up another victory against Casey Mize (6.32 ERA in July and a 5.81 ERA in August) and the Tigers. Detroit has dropped 7 of its last 10 games, and the Tigers will have their work cut out for them against Clay Holmes, who has found a consistent groove following a couple of rough starts in July. In fact, Holmes has surrendered 2 runs or fewer in 6 of his last 7 outings, and he’s also only allowed 1 home run over his last 10 starts. The reliever-turned-starter is pitching very well for New York, so let’s back the Mets as short favorites in this spot.
