We have another full 15-game slate on our hands as the week in Major League Baseball continues on Wednesday, August 6. It’s a schedule that features Guardians vs Mets, Reds vs Cubs, Yankees vs Rangers and Cardinals vs Dodgers. The YRFI/NRFI market is extremely popular in baseball betting. After all, you don’t have to sit around for 3 hours to see if your wager hits; the satisfaction (or in some cases disappointment) is immediate. It all comes down to the first inning. With our experts currently on a 7-2 run, let’s improve that record further with today’s YRFI/NRFI best bets. You can also find out our MLB picks for EVERY GAME today.
YRFI/NRFI best bet: Reds vs Cubs — NRFI (-130)
Odds available at bet365 at time of publishing.
The Reds rank 7th in baseball by scoring a first-inning run 32.5 percent of the time, but that percentage dips all the way down to 23.2 on the road. That doesn’t bode well for their prospects in Wrigley Field against Cubs starter Cader Horton. The right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.42 ERA, and he has been even better than that of late. In fact, Horton has not allowed a single run in his last 3 appearances across a total of 17.0 innings. Needless to say, I don’t see Cincinnati scoring right away – if at all – on Wednesday.
Going for the Reds is Andrew Abbott, who is 8-1 with a 2.15 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Although Kyle Tucker and Dansby Swanson have enjoyed marginal success against Abbott, the southpaw has completely shut down the Cubs this season. In 2 head-to-head matchups, Abbott has surrendered only 1 run in 12.2 innings of work. Look for the NRFI to go 3-for-3 in this NL Central series.

YRFI/NRFI best bet: Brewers vs Braves — NRFI (-140)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.
You really can’t bet the NRFI when Ronald Acuna Jr. is in the lineup for Atlanta – or at least you can’t feel good about it. With Acuna sidelined right now, I have no such reservations. The NRFI looks great between the Brewers and Braves on Wednesday. It has been a rough 2025 campaign all around for Atlanta’s offense, which is also missing Austin Riley at the moment. Opposing the Braves is left-hander Jose Quintana, who is 8-4 with a 3.50 ERA.
Milwaukee has even less of a chance to score in the opening frame. In fact, this club ranks dead last with a first-inning run percentage of 22.1 percent. Adding insult to injury, the visitors have to go up against Spencer Strider – the only original starter still in Atlanta’s starting rotation. Everyone else is hurt, but Strider is healthy and rounding into form following a bit of a slow start to the year on the heels of elbow surgery. Count on the righty shutting down the Brew Crew early and often.
